Why Germans are forbidden to spend the night at their dachas: we reveal the reason, we talk about democracy
In Germany, there are also dachas and the Germans just love to relax on them. But unlike our suburban hacienda, German dachas are full of restrictions. Why German citizens cannot spend the night in their own country houses and what else is prohibited there - read on.
What is a dacha in German
The German dacha is called the Kleingarten (German. Kleingarten), which literally translates as a small garden. Kleingarten is a small plot (no more than four acres) with a garden house. A German dacha can be owned, but most often it is leased, since not everyone can afford land in Germany.
The Kleingarten are not located in protected areas with virgin nature, but within cities, on land that is unsuitable or inconvenient for urban construction. In the overwhelming majority of cases, places have been allocated for horticultural partnerships along highways and railway lines.
Let's list all the "no"
At summer cottages in Germany, it is prohibited:
- use garden tools and tools from 13 to 15, as well as after 19 hours;
- to attract hired workers for the arrangement of a dacha or gardening work;
- grow agricultural products for sale;
- grow trees over 2.5 meters high;
- lease land or a house;
- cover with paving slabs or concrete more than 6% of the site;
- build two-story houses - buildings should be one-story with a ceiling height of 2.6 meters and 3.5 with a gable roof;
- raise the floor of the house from ground level by more than 25 centimeters;
- deepen the basements by more than 0.8 meters, the basement area should not exceed 24 sq. meters;
- conduct gas - heating with electricity;
- put a stationary toilet - dry closets are allowed;
- carry out construction work, install a greenhouse or even garden boxes without the permission of the management of the garden partnership / society;
- to shirk obligatory public works, which are appointed by the management of the garden partnership / society;
- make noise, listen to music loudly, perform actions that may disturb neighbors;
- spend the night at your own dacha!
All this is vigilantly monitored by the garden commission, which is chosen by the shareholders of the garden partnership.
Overnight stays are prohibited for fire safety reasons: garden houses are not equipped with fire alarms, which means that a fire may not be noticed. This is the opinion of the legislators and therefore the Germans cannot spend the night at their own dacha! This is punishable by a fine.
A little about democracy
They say that we have no democracy in our country. Perhaps she is not... But if we compare our dachas and German dachas, then they have a garden partnership - this is more a regime object than a place where you can retire, relax, take a break from the bustle of the city. If you want to relax, relax according to the German template: grow flowers, quietly walk barefoot on the grass, smile at your neighbors, listen to music on headphones and munch on sandwiches.
The most unpleasant thing is that a neighbor can report an offense to the police or the garden commission. This is their upbringing.
We do what we want at our dachas. If we want, we work whenever we want and grow anything. We want to - we fry kebabs, arrange noisy feasts, and after that, satisfied and happy, we go to bed in our country house. It would never even occur to anyone to demand that people go home after 9 pm and fine if the demand is ignored.
