Russia will build its own space station
At the last closed meeting with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, which was dedicated to the development of the domestic space industry, the green light was given to the construction of a domestic orbital station. So the new station should become a worthy alternative for the International Space Station (ISS) in the future. This event was reported by Moskovsky Komsomolets.
When will the new station be built
So, according to the plan, the construction of the Russian space station ROSS Russia should begin in the very near future in order to to minimize the time gap between the inevitable conservation of the Russian segment on the ISS and the commissioning of a new station.
So the preliminary date for the mothballing of the old segment is 2025, and the decision about this is primarily due to the severe deterioration of a number of modules in the Russian segment of the ISS.
Also, somewhat earlier, Roskosmos proposed to abandon the ISS altogether due to the extremely high cost of maintenance. So it was calculated that after 2025 the process of mass failure of various ISS systems will begin, and its further maintenance will cost the budget from 10 to 15 billion rubles.
Let me remind you that the International Space Station has been actively operating in orbit since the second half of 1998, and its design life should expire in 2024. But a plan is being worked out to extend its work at least until 2030 inclusive.
Well, it is likely that in a few years Russia will regain its own space station and will carry out independent scientific reconnaissance work both in low-earth orbit and in deep outer space.
Let's hope that all such ambitious plans will be implemented and we will have something to be proud of.
