We are being prepared for the transition to a 4-day work week. Where is the catch in the statements of officials
I could not pass by this news, tk. this applies to absolutely everyone. Therefore, I will express my thoughts and propose to write comments and take a short survey to understand what you think about this.
Most are aware that the President has declared May 4-7, 2021 to be non-working days. with the preservation of wages. But then other officials commented on this information: everything is at the discretion of the employer. For many, May holidays merge into May holidays. It seems like it is related to the epidemiological situation.
But the statements of the last days of certain persons (information below) do not fit in my head. First 04/17/21 State Duma deputy Sergei Vostretsov (a member of the labor committee there) said that the transition to a four-day working week would begin in the near future. Not only in our country that this is a worldwide trend. The transition can be either rapid and widespread, or phased, women first and not in all industries. Not yet defined. Moreover, this process should not reduce the existing salaries.

And now 04/28/2021. the same was stated by D. Medvedev. Link to his speech.
This is not the first statement by Dmitry Medvedev on this topic. He pronounced these words in 2019. when he was the head of government (video below).
Of course, today he is not the head of the Government and you can tell him a lot of things without realizing it. Yet he is on the country's Security Council. Perhaps this is again the sounding of some global tendencies. Because in the current situation, our country must comply with many recommendations. From the same WHO, IMF and unknown to the public Western consultants and auditors like PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) or KPMG.

After all, raising the retirement age is just an initiative of the IMF for many countries. This increase took place not only in Russia. But this information about the transition to a four-day working week, at a superficial glance, does not fit in with the increase in the retirement age. We were forced to work longer on a scale of years, and now they are preparing us for a sparing schedule. It was decided to fulfill directly the precepts of socialism from Stalin:
Knowing the liberal attitude of most of our officials and ministries in the Government, we can say with confidence that they are hardly puzzled by concern. On the contrary, the policy of the state machine sets the tone for paying as little as possible. I touched on this topic in this article
If we think logically, for example, in the coming years, they will introduce this schedule of a four-day work week, what will this lead to? It is not profitable for the employer - it is a fact. He will receive less profit, he needs to change the schedule and arrange more staff (where the work is 7 days a week). He will shift these costs towards reducing salaries. At first, he will be obliged to keep salaries, but gradually he will lower them. It's like prices. Nobody raises prices by 30% at once either.
I doubt that in most industries we have high labor productivity, a high level of economic growth, that you can just take and cancel one working day. Even selectively, at the request of the employer, this will lead to speculation with salaries.
And hardly in our realities it is possible to increase labor productivity. Even if this happens, the employer's logic will be different: you work less, you get less. And what can be the increase in labor productivity for a salesperson, teacher, doctor, loader or security guard? The quality of the work - yes, but not the productivity.
There is no need to explain what the decline in wages and incomes will lead to. There will be a decrease in consumer demand and a fall in the economy. In general, my opinion is that this is some kind of another cunning plan to curb development (decrease in income citizens) already undermined by quarantine measures in many sectors of the economy, a blow to small and medium-sized business. We've been told the tip of the iceberg in the context of caring. But in fact, this is an insidious plan.
What do you think, what does this information from the lips of high officials mean? I propose to take a survey and see the results.
Another negative factor. What does a certain category of citizens do during long holidays (and even on weekends)? These are alcoholic feasts, turning into binges. As some say, in our country they do not know how to rest in another way. There is no need to explain what this will lead to.
The reasoned opinion for which the transition to a 4-day working week is proposed can be seen in the 2019 video:
Yes, this is an attempt on the income of citizens and it has been discussed for a long time. Apparently, in the opinion of liberal-minded officials, we live too well.
This 4-day-a-week model did not appear out of nowhere. In 2018. conducted an experiment at a company office in New Zealand. Perpetual Guardian cut its 240 office staff by one day for eight weeks. This did not reduce productivity, but it allegedly reduced employee stress and increased work engagement.

Those. there was a public precedent. If the workers' salaries are preserved, then everyone there is happy. But whether the experiment was accidental or special - no one will tell. To put it in a hackneyed phrase, one TV presenter: Coincidence? - I don't think so! In any case, the chain of events is somehow strangely built. Why was this experiment not done in 2010? or in 2005? Was office automation low? Many office workers, programmers in 2020 switched to remote control. And their labor productivity did not affect the result in any way. Because they are focused on results.
I myself am one of these remote workers, a regional manager. My work is aimed specifically at the result, and not at sitting out time in the office. I have had an office at home for 10 years. And in such professions, you can make at least a three-day work week and the result will remain the same.
If such a transition to a shortened working week takes place, then what will you personally do with this day (or with three days off at once)? I propose to take another survey and see the results of other readers.
