What would I build a house from? Reader poll with results
My choice of building a house from autoclaved aerated concrete was not spontaneous. It was a deliberate choice after studying most of the wall materials available on the market (and in our region).
The criteria were as follows: self-construction with minimal labor costs, the possibility of conservation of construction without damage to the material. Low thermal conductivity, strength, availability in the region.
Have I regretted my choice? Not! But if not aerated concrete, then what kind of wall materials would I pay attention to today? Some in our village have built wooden concrete houses. Probably, the choice was made in favor of good thermal properties and resistance to deformation: blocks made of wood concrete cannot be split, self-tapping screws are freely screwed into them and are held in place.
But such a house without facade plaster is a sieve, it will blow through and get wet. Therefore, some manufacturers in the European part of the country produce wood concrete immediately with a decorative layer, with decorative tiles cemented at the stage of block forming:
There are several options for a decorative layer. Laying that does not require plastering or painting. The only thing is that you need to seal the seams with a solution. This is a long and painstaking, but not difficult job that you can do yourself.
Realizing that a house made of aerated concrete needs to be insulated in our climate and made a facade, now the option of wood concrete with decorative tiles seems interesting. But we do not make such blocks. The same interesting option is the heat block:
A house from these blocks turns out to be both warm and immediately with a complete facade solution. These blocks are produced in our suburbs. I considered this option, but the following was embarrassing: the stability of the masonry in a house of two floors with floor slabs. And what will happen to the foam in 20-30 years? The price was also higher than that of aerated concrete.
I did not consider a wooden and frame house in principle. I have experience in operating a bath from a bar and felt all the shortcomings of a tree. For me, they cover all the pluses. And after the price of timber jumped by 30% in half a year - this material is no longer only mine. Articleabout it.
There was a survey on forumhouse.ru: What kind of wall material did you use (do you want to use)? The result did not surprise me.
Although, in our region, I would not say that such proportions are being met. Apparently, those readers who just want to start building, but so far do not have such an opportunity, participated in the survey. I want to conduct a similar survey among my readers: vote for the wall material that you have chosen for construction or which you tend to:
The first voters may not display the results, so the result can be viewed a little later. If someone chooses another wall material that is not listed in the list - write about your choice in the comments.
