The currant has become large and sweet! I'm talking about effective, and, most importantly, free fertilization

How did I know this secret

I will say right away that I am not a seasoned gardener in the fifth generation and do not know all the intricacies of this business. I inherited the dacha four years ago. Trees and bushes were already growing on it. I just took over the economy and bring it to mind.

Of the successes achieved, which I can really be proud of, is the currant. When I took the dacha, half of the bushes hurt and I cut them down. He left only the most promising ones. But they also gave an unimportant harvest: not enough, and the berries are small.

He looked after currants as best he could: weeded, mulched, cut, watered, fertilized, closed for the winter. Over the past two years, the situation has improved slightly, but the result is still not encouraging. I already thought I'd have to cut it down to make room for something else. But I changed my mind ...

In the summer of 2018, I was sent on a business trip to the Volgograd region. Passing a village, I stopped at a small roadside market. The locals sold fruits and vegetables, milk and eggs, rabbit and chicken meat there. In general, the gifts of their land.

There, a bucket of large black currants caught my eye. An old woman, so thin and small, was selling her - God's dandelion. I ask: "Granny, how did you raise her?" She answered: "Buy it, I'll tell you!" "Come on! How much? " I asked. "1200!" - blurted out the grandmother. After the calculation, the old woman gave me the secret of a large sweet currant.

How do I feed currants now: a recipe

To feed the currants so that they become large and sweet, you must use potato peels! Currants (black and red) are fertilized in spring and autumn. I do this in mid-April and late September.

What should be done

Potato skins and rotten potatoes must first be soaked in boiling water for 4–6 hours. To do this, I fill ⅓ buckets with cleansers, pour boiling water to the top and cover with a lid. When the water cools down completely (about 4-6 hours pass) I turn the peel into a gruel. This fertilizer can be applied directly to the soil.

Next, I dig a groove 15–20 centimeters deep around the bushes and put this gruel into it. One bush takes about three kilos of "puree" from the peel. I sprinkle the fertilizer with earth so that the mashed potatoes do not attract rodents and harmful insects. That's the whole secret!

I have a lot of bushes, so I begin to collect the peel in two months. I freeze it and by the time I need it, the amount I need accumulates. This year, I added carrot and beetroot peelings to potato peelings. I'll see what happens.

What does it give

Then I subtracted that the potato peel contains a lot of useful microelements, which enrich the soil. It contains:

  • starch (the simplest sugar), it promotes the growth and development of stems, leaves, fruits, makes the berries sweeter;
  • ascorbic acid - increases the nutritional value of berries, promotes plant development;
  • glucose - saturates the berries, helps the plant better endure wintering;
  • various mineral salts - are valuable plant nutrients.

The result from such fertilization was not long in coming. Already in the first year, the currants became sweeter and larger, and the harvest was greater. In the second year, the bushes simply surprised me: the currant is large like a cherry; sweet, tart; there is a lot of harvest - half a bucket from a bush for sure!

And the main thing is that this miracle fertilizer costs me absolutely free! This year I will try potato peel bait on gooseberries, cherries, and sweet cherries. I will definitely inform you about the result!
