With the beginning of spring, vegetation wakes up and ticks become active. These bloodsuckers are most dangerous from April to June. If you don't have a saving spray at your fingertips, we will tell you how to protect yourself from ticks, mosquitoes, horseflies in a simple and effective way that our ancestors have used for centuries.

How to protect yourself from ticks and mosquitoes with the help of ants: a time-tested method

Find an anthill

If you find yourself in the forest and do not want to be attacked by blood-sucking insects, first of all find any anthill. Believe me, this is far from being in short supply in the forest.

The fact is that the little workers of the forest secrete formic acid, from which all vampires from the insect world run like hell from incense. Ticks and other gnats simply do not tolerate this chemical compound.

In spring, formic acid is most concentrated and has the greatest protective ability. Nature has foreseen everything! It remains only to apply this miracle remedy to yourself. But how to do that?

How to get acid from ants

There are two ways to get some acid from ants.

  • The first is to put some item of clothing directly on the anthill. For example: cap, jacket, T-shirt. In extreme cases, a handkerchief. It takes 10-15 minutes to get the required amount of acid on the item. Next, you need to shake off the ants from your clothes and put on the thing. If you used a handkerchief, wipe your hands with it, and then put it behind the collar. This protection works reliably for up to 5 hours.
  • The second method is easier and faster, but not for women. In ancient times, hunters used it. It consists in the fact that you need to put your hands on the anthill so that insects climb on them, and then, like lotion, wipe your hands, legs, neck, face. Of course, ants will bite during this procedure, but this is much better than getting an encephalitis tick bite. The application of formic acid in this way provides protection from bloodsuckers for 2-3 hours. Then the procedure must be repeated.

Ant ointment

Our ancestors also prepared a kind of protective ointment from ants. This recipe is still used by taiga hunters, since store products have a specific smell that animals can smell well.

The recipe for the ointment is as follows: ants are collected, soaked for several hours in hot water (not in boiling water - the water temperature is approximately 70-80 degrees); filter, put in a cloth and clamp in a vice. What is released from the ants is collected in a storage container. This ointment is obtained strictly in the spring, when the ants are most rich in acid.
