On the Internet, controversy continues about how to properly put the disc on an angle grinder - it's a Bulgarian. Some claim that it needs to be installed with the shirt facing out, and some users prefer the version of installing the disk with the shirt inward. So who's right? We asked the professional welder Dmitry to answer this question.

How to put the disc on the angle grinder?

I have been using a grinder almost every day for over fifteen years and I know a lot about this tool. No more than twenty disks were scattered, but that was at the beginning of my career. Now this does not happen and cutting discs in my hands are grinded down to the size of a "wedding ring".

I will not beat around the bush and will immediately answer the question: there is absolutely no difference which side to put the disc on the grinder - put it with your shirt inward or outward. Its location does not in any way affect the quality of the cut or safety. Discs fly apart only from the wrong mode of operation.

How to work with a grinder correctly so that the disks do not fly apart

So that the discs do not bite and they do not fly in pieces to the sides, follow three simple rules for working with angle grinders.

1. Do not put pressure on the grinder under any circumstances! When working with this tool, your hands should be relaxed, and the brush should move dynamically - in this way, it will dampen unnecessary vibrations. And also do not grab the grinder with a dead grip - hold the tool firmly, but "gently"!
2. Do not cut in such a way that the workpiece bends towards the blade. The gap between the blade and the metal should increase, not decrease during the cutting process!
3. When working with an angle grinder, be sure to use personal protective equipment: glasses and gloves. Thus, sparks will not distract you from your work and your attention will be focused exclusively on the workpiece.
