Are the strawberries in bloom? Time to fertilize! 3 dressings for numerous, large and sweet berries from the old garden
Flaming May fireworks, fellow gardeners! If you notice that green strawberry bushes have begun to quickly become covered with white nondescript flowers, then it's time to make a contribution to the future.. Conduct top dressing, which increases not only the quantity, but also the quality of our future berry harvest.
I really love strawberries. Therefore, I will be immensely generous. I will offer, comrade, to your precious attention 3 options for dressing at once, each of which acts in its own way. Choose and act!
Task number 1: increasing the number of productive ovaries
Alas! Not every strawberry flower is destined to become a berry plucked by the hand of a caring gardener. Well, or a pecked impudent bird. The total number of ovaries is influenced by a long list of factors. Both dependent on a person (offhand - watering and fertility of the ridge), and not amenable to correction (take the same weather).
In order to somehow reduce debit to credit, I advise citizens to use RBB. This trace mineral triggers a series of funny biochemical reactions, due to which, in the end, more berries are formed. In order for the boron to act with lightning speed, top dressing is applied along the leaf - spraying or primitively fanning it with a moistened broom.
Boric acid sachets are sold both in pharmacies and gardening stores. This year I got lazy and ordered on the bourgeois Wildberry. By the way, you can take it in reserve: strawberries are not the only culture that reacts so favorably to the introduction of boron. It will come in handy for other crops as well.
Boron application rate to increase strawberry productivity - 5 g per 10 l of water. Please do not try to stir half of the contents of the sachet at once in a bucket: this is difficult and does not always allow the crystals to dissolve. Comrade! Be wise: dissolve boric acid in a little water first. And very warm water.
Problem number 2: More large and sweet berries from the same garden
Now it's the turn to take care of the quality of the berries.. By "quality" I mean the main thing: the size and the very unique and well-recognizable strawberry taste, in which the aromatic sweetness of the pulp is supplemented with a slight, but sourness.
There is nothing better than potassium for increasing the quantity and quality of the strawberry harvest.. For anyone who is not afraid to use fertilizers in their garden, I highly recommend buying a bag of potassium monophosphate. Anyone who is afraid to use "chemistry" will have a recipe below.
Comrade! Use potassium monophosphate when strawberry blooms are in their final stages or have ended. The method of preparation and use is the same as for boric acid:
- first we dilute in a small amount of warm water, and then pour the resulting solution into the main volume.
- we bring in on the sheet.
But the dosage is different: take 10 g for 10 liters of water.
"Strawberry" fertilizer for fans of organic farming
Fortunately, you and I live in a democratic country. And all other countries envy us. Each summer resident has the right to choose whether to use "chemistry" on his site or not. If you, comrade, stand up for organic farming and despise purchased fertilizers, feel free to pick up a bucket of ash.
Sprinkle the beds with ash at the beginning of flowering. Watering and raining will bring the nutrients straight to the strawberry roots. And they will help to fill up with juicy berries!
How to combine these dressings? I choose boron at the beginning of flowering and potassium after. If I shied away from chemistry, at the beginning of flowering I would sprinkle the bed with ash and, perhaps, secretly sprayed it with boric acid. In the end, you can choose all 3 options. It will not be worse - each of them acts in its own way and does not interfere with the other.
