Swing gates opened inward for two reasons:

• In the village, and in most suburban yards, cattle used to be kept. In the morning he was driven out to graze, and in the evening he returned home. After grazing, cattle, rams and goats accumulated at the entrance, as a result of which the gate to the outside would be very problematic to open. Therefore, hinged gates that open only inward were common in the past.
• The second reason is associated with snowy winters. In snowy weather, from the windward side, it could cause so much snow that the gate with a wicket fell asleep to the very top. Accordingly, the gates and wickets that open outward were simply impossible to open. This also applied to the front door of the house - the snowdrifts formed near the walls of the building did not block the doors that opened inward.

The front door opened inside the building also not at the whim of the owner. In addition to possible snow drifts that could block the entrance, there were two more factors that influenced the design of the front door.

• There was no such comfort as in modern houses and apartments. The heating functioned on firewood, and the water had to be carried in buckets. Imagine that you need to bring an armful of firewood into the house or your hands are busy with buckets. What's the easiest way to open the door? Naturally, push with your foot so that it opens itself. Therefore, the door structure, opening inwardly, was much more convenient.
• Another reason is security. The door that opens outward cannot be propped up and blocked from the street. They say that this is due to some kind of revenge and the possibility of setting fire to the house along with its inhabitants. It looks crazy now, but it may have been the case before. But at the same time, such a door could be supported from the inside, which made it possible to block the path of intruders.
