Despite all the obstacles, the first string of Nord Stream 2 is ready for commissioning
According to the Nord Stream 2 operator Nord Stream 2 AG, from the technical point of view, the construction of the first string of the gas pipeline has been completed. So on June 10, 2021, the connection between the sections of the pipeline laid on the Russian and German sides was carried out.

That is, in fact, two pipes were connected in the sea using the so-called “over-water overlap” method. By and large, the operation is not so much complicated as it is laborious and requires compliance with certain conditions.
So already on June 11, commissioning work should have begun, during which all systems will be checked and the pipe will be filled with gas. And they will last (adjustment work) at least a couple of months. At the same time, the laying of the second line of the pipeline is in full swing. And the whole process should be completed in the next couple of months.
A little about the project and why you need it
The ongoing Nord Stream 2 is a rather ambitious project for a significant expansion for quite a long time and has been successfully the functioning "Nord Stream", with the help of which such countries as the Russian Federation and Germany are already connected along the bottom Baltic Sea. At the same time, such countries as Ukraine, Belarus and Poland are excluded from transit.
Potok-2 largely repeats the route of its predecessor, but at the same time it starts not at Vyborg (the starting point of the Nord Stream), but at Ust-Luga (the same Kaliningrad region).
In addition, the route of the second stream runs through the sovereign economic zones: the Russian Federation, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and, directly, Germany.
At the same time, the total length of the gas pipe is equal to a considerable 1.23 thous. kilometers.
The urgent need for Nord Stream 2 arose after the political situation in Ukraine changed, and our the largest gas supplier Gazprom has encountered serious difficulties in delivering gas to end consumers in Europe.
Therefore, it was decided to build a new branch of the main gas pipeline, which will fully meet the existing and growing gas needs of the European Union. At the same time, in fact, now the gas facilities located on the territory of Ukraine are not needed, which means there is no threat of disruption of supplies to the west.
I would also like to note that throughout the entire construction, the Russian side faced active resistance from the United States and other countries, since the construction of Nord Stream 2 will allow to buy Russian gas at cheaper prices, and their LNG, which was actively bought last, rather cold winter, will in fact no longer be needed, which means that US companies will lose arrived.
Well, one has only to congratulate everyone who participated in the construction of this colossal project and rejoice for Russia, that, despite all the obstacles, she was able to practically complete the project that will strengthen her position in the European union.
