I learned from an experienced carpenter how to bend a board with a semicircular angle. I took note of this cunning connection!
Connecting two boards to each other is not difficult, because there are dozens of joinery connections for this. But how many knows howto connect the boards so that there are no joints and seams? At first glance, it seems that it is very difficult to do this and even unrealistic, but in fact there is nothing difficult here.
Today I will show you one a clever way how you can bend a board with a semicircular corner and get a connection without a single joint. I learned this secret from a carpenter friend of mine.
And so, as an example, I will use a pine board 10 cm wide.
Before bending it, you need to make a markup and for this we need a protractor, a square and a simple pencil. We apply the square to the board at a right angle, and already close the protractor to it. Then, stepping back from the edge of 3 - 4 mm, draw an arc, circling the protractor from 0 to 90 degrees.
Then, by shifting the square to the top of the arc, we bring the line to the edge of the board at a right angle.
The length of the obtained segment AB must be measured and memorized (a little later we will need this value).
Now, we return to the very beginning and, attaching the protractor to the starting point so that it coincides with 90 degrees, rotate it to 180 degrees until it aligns with the edge of the board and set label. From this mark we set aside a distance equal to the segment AB and put a point. Watch a short video below.
The drawing is ready and it remains only to cut out the shaded area using a jigsaw.
As a result, the board should look like this.
Well, now we are going to bend the board (I'm sure many have already guessed how I'm going to do this)! We need some kind of shallow container (bowl or basin) and boiling water. Pour boiling water over the board and leave it to soak for 15 - 20 minutes.
During this time, the wood will soften, become elastic and this connection can be bent without any effort.
After that, it remains only to glue the board with ordinary PVA glue and voila, the connection is ready! Thus, the end of the board will not have any joints and the wood pattern will remain solid. How do you like this connection?
