Since when did the expression "do it yourself" take on a new meaning

Quite often, on my channel, I make posts with this phrase in their titles: "With your own hands." So it is understandable because the channel is about the home workshop and the products that I make in it.

And often there are comments of this kind.

So I get lost with the name "do it yourself", damn it, call the video "New Year's decorations with your machines"

With his own hands on the machine, the author burns. I have a machine right at home and I just think about how to make a table with my own hands. Well, just a joke

"with your own hands" - this is when with a knife and chisel, chisels, handles. And on machine tools - it's a little different)))

What turned over in the heads of these people? "With your own hands" simply means to do something directly by yourself, without anyone's help and nothing more.

If you follow this logic about machines, then you can reach the complete absurdity.

Imagine a wife cooked a festive dinner with her own hands at home, and her husband tells her that she did it not with her own hands, but with kitchen appliances. 🤣 At least I would have remained hungry, but most likely I would have received it with a rolling pin or a frying pan according to my “thought”.

And if someone made a dress, suit or robe for himself at home, using a sewing machine - is that also not done with your own hands?

Any person who has a hobby does everything with his own hands, be it beading, soap making, wood burning, assembling ship models. It doesn't matter what machines, tools or ready-made components are used, in the end, all this is done by hand.

Probably those who wrote to me that I do not do it with my own hands, but with my machines are people from the future, where robots do everything - just say: "Make me a chair or a table" and such a robot machine is does.

I have no such robotic machines. You have to set up to turn them on and work on them with your own hands.

I think modern advertising is to blame for the appearance of such statements, when it seems that buy this super-machine and he himself is all for will make you, or the super-mop will wash the floor itself, and the super-hose will water the flowers itself, and the super-food processor will prepare the food itself - buy and enjoy.

And that's not all: it happens that "Do it yourself" confused with the concept "handmade", but they are not the same thing. 🙄
