Why, with intelligence and knowledge, most do not open their own business

The article I asked a friend of the owner of the company: why don't you pay decent salaries to employees? The answer surprised several dozen commentators wrote to me the same phrase: "... open a business and pay employees big salaries." As a rule, you try to find the answer in such cases: why am I not an entrepreneur with a staff of tens, hundreds, or even thousands of people?

The answer is both simple and complex at the same time: is everyone capable of being entrepreneurs? You need not only start-up capital, but also high mental abilities, speed of thinking and speed of making the right decisions. Knowledge, finally, of your topic.

Not everyone even has a desire to change something. The most important - this is motivation! And if everyone tries to become entrepreneurs, then society will turn into a "squabble of spiders in a bank." Someone in society must remain a doctor, teacher, driver and loader. Therefore, phrases from the highest echelons of power, like this one, cause either disagreement or just a smile:

Let's talk about those who have data: an analytical mindset, knowledge in a certain area, active age, opportunity find start-up capital, etc. And why don't such people become entrepreneurs, even if they have very little income? I belong to this number of people (maybe not in all respects, of course). Therefore, I will argue by evaluating myself.

After graduating from university (two higher educations), I had a strong desire to open my own business. But don't buy and sell, but produce something (I'm creative by nature). There were many ideas that I tried to get some of my friends interested in. Someone even called me "the generator of ideas." But doing something with your hands, starting from scratch, is not interesting to anyone. In the early 2000s, simple trade flourished. Especially computer equipment, clothing. This requires start-up capital.

Somewhere I tried myself. For example, in the topic of content for cell phones (SMS aggregators). Already then digital technologies were interesting. There was a good result, but the topic quickly faded away with the development of cellular communications and the phones themselves. There are topics even now after gaining experience in construction. Including washed concrete technology with a completely free niche in our city.

I am not a fan of taking risks, so not finding partners, all ideas remained ideas. Then, seeing how the owners and partners in the company where I worked do business, I came to the conclusion that combining and brainstorming two minds (even with a lack of knowledge) is very effective.

I haven’t acquired any connections. Businesses are also created on their basis. As an example - some of the topics in the past work. At a certain point, I stopped being a drinking companion. And those with whom it was necessary to keep in touch (for connections) fell off.

There are entrepreneurs who got into the wave, as they say. Or saw an opportunity.

Recently they told an example about one person. He worked as a manager, but business owners began to pay little attention to the business itself, because everything worked well according to the established scheme. And at some point, they lost most of the business, tk. this manager of theirs took clients away by opening his own company. I think there are many such examples. I do not justify and do not condemn - everything is here, as they say. depends on the threshold of conscience. And this is more than enough in me.

Many, like me, get to another level of activity, the comfort zone hinders. It used to be called just laziness. Only a special need compels action (or a strong desire for some goal). But money itself is not always the goal. The process must capture, and the money in it is a by-product. Therefore, I believe that many companies in rented offices with the sole purpose of earning money through mediation are often fly-by-night companies.

Another important factor is the unwillingness to have hired employees. Somewhere deep within me the thought that the exploitation of man by man is an evil, not far removed from slavery. And over the years this thought only gets stronger. But this is a separate topic. Therefore, creating a business with minimal profitability and low salaries for employees is definitely not mine.

Perhaps, based on all this, I build a house myself. Plus the creative realization of your potential.

If we talk about psychological types of personality, then I am melancholic. Calm, but often very easy to unsettle me. Susceptible to other people's opinions (not so lately). These are unnecessary qualities for an entrepreneur.

Who am I now? Regional manager (a dying profession) and self-employed. What you are reading now also brings income. This is also creative self-realization. Money is important, but not the meaning of my life.

My opinion: an entrepreneur is a person with a rare set of qualities: the speed of life (of mind and decision-making), with a persistent attitude to criticism and with a set of connections. It is the ability to lead, connect and motivate people. Ability to negotiate, argue and prove (leadership qualities, as they say). And this is a person with an inner desire to do what he and his company does. Not everyone has all this. Many qualities can be developed, but will it be of benefit to you and your Self? This process is especially vivid in women. Some business women and women are difficult to name.
