How to properly fill the foundation in several stages? We answer the question
Several times our subscribers have asked a question about the phased filling of the foundation. We answer it.
A question from a subscriber
"Good afternoon! Soon I have to fill the strip foundation of my future home. But there is a serious problem: there is no centralized concrete in our area, I will have to knead the solution on the spot and pour it in several stages. Can you please tell me how to properly make such a fill? I am wondering, is it better to cast in layers? "
Answer
To begin with, the foundation and other concrete structures must be poured in one step. Moreover, the foundation is an extremely responsible structure and it is undesirable to make gaps in its filling.
But if you have circumstances in such a way that it is not possible to feed concrete one-time, then make sure that the gaps in the pouring of concrete are not in the horizon, but in the vertical. That is, filling with layers is not allowed!
For example, if you are pouring a stove, then it is better to fill first one half or some part, and then the rest. The same is with the strip foundation - fill in part, then the second, and so on. Breaks must be strictly vertical.
Due to the gap in the concrete supply, it is not worth pouring in layers - making a puff cake. This will result in a combined structure, where the elements (layers) are not connected with each other in any way. Under load, the layered foundation will not work as a monolith, but will function as disparate elements of one structure.
An important point!
Another important point. Try to complete the phased pouring of the foundation in a short time - no more than two to three weeks. Do not stretch this work over several months. The foundation begins to shrink under its own weight and it is necessary to make sure that this process proceeds as evenly as possible.
If you fill one part now, and the other, for example, after two months, then each part will shrink in its own way and this will negatively affect the entire structure in the future.
Have you had to pour concrete in several stages? Write in the comments how this was done and what the result was.
