9 self-leveling floor mistakes that lead to cracking, peeling and swelling
If you plan to do the repair yourself, make self-leveling floors, then you should know about the main mistakes, which will surely lead to irreparable consequences.
If everything is not done correctly, then you will have to remove the defective layer and fill it again.
The self-leveling floor is a reliable, polyurethane, seamless base, but with strict adherence to the technology.
Errors
1. Unprepared base. If the dusty floor was cracked, not treated with soil, then the adhesion and spreading of the solution will deteriorate.
2. Thickness. If you exceed the thickness of the self-leveling floor, this will lead to cracks. If it is necessary to make an impressive layer, then alternate filling should be done with breaks and a primer of each layer.
3. The damper tape is important to compensate for the expansion of the solution during the period of its solidification. If you forget about the tape, then there may be a separation from the base of the layer.
4. Some people literally take the marketing ploy of manufacturers. They declare that the self-leveling floor is self-leveling. The floor must additionally be leveled.
5. Too much water. It is necessary to strictly observe the proportions of dry matter and water, which are indicated on the package. If you neglect this, then cracks and delamination will inevitably appear.
6. Where there will be tiles, it is not necessary to make a self-leveling floor. And if you want to lay a laminate, then it would be ideal to make a screed and compensate for small irregularities with a self-leveling floor.
7. It is important to mix the solution at low speeds. If you do this at high speeds, then the mixture will pick up a lot of air and there will be bubbles on the surface. However, a needle roller can help with this. In this case, you should pay attention to the length of the needles. The needles should be larger and longer than the thickness of the coating. There is a more reliable tool for replacing the roller - a squeegee with an adjuster for the height, width and length of the blades.
8. In order not to flood the neighbors, it is better to lay a strong film before pouring the floor. In this case, it is necessary to treat the film with a solution for better adhesion, otherwise the floor surface will "walk".
9. Wait until the cement-sand screed is completely dry before the self-leveling floor. Otherwise, the laid laminate will pick up moisture and swell (mold and mildew will appear).
Happy renovation and all the best!
