An old Soviet project for the production of hydrogen, estimated at 200 billion dollars, will be revived in Kamchatka
Representatives of the company "H2 Clean Energy" signed a contract agreement with the Development Corporation of the Kamchatka Territory on the development of such a project as the Penzhinskaya Tidal Power Plant (TPP), which may be located in the Sea of Okhotsk, namely in the Shelikhov. At the same time, the goal of the entire event is to create the largest source of hydrogen production in the world.
Long-term project and its possible implementation
The history of this project dates back to the 1970s, when the project was calculated, which was estimated at more than $ 200 billion. dollars.
Within the framework of this project, it was planned to build a TPP with a nominal capacity of up to 100 GW. That, for a minute, is equal to almost 40% of the capacity of all power plants included in the Russian energy system in 2012.
At that time, the project was evaluated by the Institute "Hydroproject", which gave its conclusion that in Penzhinskaya In the bay, a couple of power plants can be implemented at once: PES-1 (northern section, an approximate estimate of the construction of 60 billion dollars) and PES-2 (southern section, approximate project estimate of 200 billion. dollars).
At the same time, for the implementation of the project, it was proposed to form an international consortium, including consumers from Japan, China and South Korea.
How much money will be required in current realities, as well as the main sources of cash injections will be determined based on the results of a preliminary feasibility study of the project.
What is PES and what are its prospects
So, TPP is a specific type of hydroelectric power plant, which uses the energy of tides for its work. At the same time, in the Russian Federation, the highest tides were recorded precisely in the White Sea (about 10 meters) and, directly, in the Penzhinskaya Bay of the Sea of Okhotsk (up to 13.4 meters).
At the same time, there is currently only one experimental tidal power plant in Russia - the Kislogubskaya TPP, which was built in the Barents Sea back in 1968.
And the world's largest TPP is located in South Korea, which was commissioned back in 2011, and its installed capacity is only 254 MW.
Penzhinskaya Bay is the most promising place in the world for the construction of tidal power plants and, despite its high cost and extremely low the need for additional capacities in the region, the development of hydrogen energy and the general trend for greening the energy sector makes it possible to nevertheless discover and implement it in future.
And according to the general plan, by 2050 Russia plans to receive profit from the sale of hydrogen from 23.6 to 100.2 billion. US dollars.
