Making a sofa with your own hands in a home workshop. Pre-assembly and little tweaks. Part 7
Pre-assembly allows you to check how the parts fit the arcs to each other and, if jambs are found, correct them before painting.
Before assembling, it remains to make several holes to connect the central jumper with dowels.
After that, the sofa was pre-assembled.
All connections have been checked here and mates have been corrected where necessary. For example, a cutout for a decorative strip, which was installed in the sidewall under the armrest.
The frame was then taken apart for final sanding before painting.
I grinded with a surface grinder, which I had at that time in the workshop.
*** When grinding some pressure is exerted on the parts and in order to avoid possible dents from trapped sawdust, I put a piece of foam polyethylene under the parts.
I usually finish sanding on softwood with 120 grit sandpaper.
All parts were chamfered by hand and using sandpaper. He made a noticeable rounding on the armrests, and insignificant on the other parts.
Some details needed to be putty. For this, I prefer to use a homemade putty, which I mix right before applying.
*** The composition of such a putty very simple: wood dust left after sanding and PVA building glue. I use the construction one because it is well polished and well painted.
This completes the preparation of the parts and the next step is painting and assembly.

And even earlier, there was a series of articles on making a durable, reliable stool. You can see here.
And more recently it was series about chair making.
