The rich also cry or how a regular marker helped me avoid big debt: a case from a construction site

At a construction site, mistakes and curiosities of varying "severity" often occur. The reasons are different: from the negligence of the performers to the whims of the customer. But the quirks of the customer sometimes turn into problems for the builders. Our interlocutor Maxim told about one such case.

Non-poor object

I am a lineman, I run cable internet at home. I have been working for more than one year and I know my business well - I have never received any claims for all my work experience. But, as they say, the stick shoots once a year. I also happened to burn more than one nerve cell.

Once we got an application for one non-poor cottage located in the same non-poor area. The house was built recently and finishing work was already being completed inside. The second floor was completely finished, and on the first floor there were plumbers, painters and parquet flooring. In general, the object should be 100% complete in a few days.

At the appointed time, we arrived here at the request of our provider. We were met by the hostess - a very glamorous lady. When looking at her, one got the impression that she was transported here from some series about a luxurious life. Well, more to the point ...

Our first question was: "Where are we going to start the cable?" The lady, without thinking twice, said that to the second floor through the office. "Well, for the second, then for the second!" - I said and we went to look for the entry point. In front of the stairs we were asked to put on shoe covers, gloves and not touch anything. The owner's desire is the law! And so they did.

The hostess took us into the office and asked: "Where do you usually drill a hole for cable entry?" “In most cases, in the area of ​​the plinth, so that later on the plinth and lead it,” I replied. "No! This will not work, we will not touch the oak plinth, ”the hostess replied. “And in general, there are expensive Italian wallpaper on the wall, French parquet on the floor - try not to spoil it with your work,” she added.

A long thought began. The lady retreated to different corners of the room and looked at the wall. So she doesn't like it, the view of the wall will deteriorate from here, there will be an expensive table here. I decided to help with choosing a place: I went up to the wall, jabbed my finger and ran into a "run over" from its side. “Well, I told you - don't touch anything! A roll of this wallpaper is worth like your salary! " - the lady squeezed out of herself with impudent intonation and rasping.

It started to get on my nerves. I decided not to interfere with the process, gave her a construction marker, which I always carry with me, and asked her to mark the entry point while I went to the car for the tools.

The hostess called the foreman of the finishers and began to discuss with him how to lead the wire imperceptibly, so to speak, "with little blood." They thought something, then called an electrician who was hanging a chandelier in the next room and a painter gluing her elite wallpaper on the first floor. In general, 30 minutes after the meeting, she marked a cross on the wall and said: "Drill here and just don't try to spoil anything, lay the floor and work very carefully!"

I did everything as she said: I covered the floor, connected the vacuum cleaner to the hammer drill and started drilling. At first, the wall gave in easily, but after a moment the drill rested somewhere, I pressed, it fell through and hot liquid gushed out of the hole. "The pipe is in the wall, and I, too, will have a pipe!" - a thought flashed through my head. I instinctively jerked, pulled the drill out of the hole and poured the fountain onto the floors. I could not shut him up and rushed to the first floor into the boiler room.

I ran into this room and found imported equipment that I had never seen before. How to turn it off is unclear! As a result, I turned it off, cut off the gas and started turning all the taps coming from the boiler. When I returned to the room, there was already a huge puddle of hot antifreeze on the floor. I got into a hidden broach of heating pipes.

The hostess screamed as if cut, called her husband, lawyer and the regional police department. I called my superiors. They began to understand and she, out of stupidity and fever, with a large crowd of people, said that she had marked the place of entry herself. I will not tell all the further vicissitudes, and they dragged on for six months, but she lost the trial. The lady wanted to transfer all the blame specifically to me and my organization, but due to the fact that the marker was in her hands and this was confirmed by witnesses, the truth was on my side.

This is how an ordinary building marker helped me avoid large debts that could be hung on me if the situation were different. And there was a very, very real scenario of an unpleasant development of events for me!
