Is it worth cutting Petunia for the winter: "You won't wish it on your enemy!" And all bloggers are full of tips to "save"
Do you want to know what really lies behind the advice to "cut the petunia at the end of summer to save for next year"? Then a fiery salute, comrade truth-loving flower grower! Today on the agenda are the features of the winter content of roughly drawn (it's not even clear why!) Petunias, which will darken the life of any grower.
Obvious-probable: petunia will take the best place from your indoor flowers
Probably, since the middle of summer, the Internet has been full of annoying advice on how to properly draw this very petunia. Although their combination would be perfectly described by the phrase "stuck and forget."
But my wife also fell for the stories of bloggers, having made herself cuttings. To my reasonable question "For what ?!" she mumbled something about "the next year there is no need to sow seedlings." "Are you ready that this time saving will ruin your favorite home rose?" - I answered. And there was no particular exaggeration in this:
Petunia is an extremely and extremely light-loving plant.
If you, comrade, want to carry out your plans, then get ready to give her the sunniest place in the house.. And I assure you, there will be a lot of those who want to occupy it in the long Russian winter among the permanent indoor plants.Growing rooted petunias on the windowsill is a whim. If you already have a lot of flowers, then because of the desire to play, your favorite home flowers will remain in the background.
Petunia will still grow scary and thin
Petunia in the apartment in winter is a pitiful sight. I saw how it stretches like a vine with liquid leaves, constantly striving to dry out. At the same time, he drinks and eats like a horse. Occasionally teasing the test grower with a rare flower. However, quickly falling off.
In order for the petunia to grow more or less like the summer bush-shaped version, it needs:
- Very bright light. Natural lighting in Russian conditions is unlikely to be enough. No wonder petunia feels great under the direct rays of the sultry July sun.
- Low temperature. If there is no way to give her a couple of powerful LED lamps, the only saving way is put carefully rooted cuttings at 12-15 ° C and hope that this will somehow slow down stretching. Well, abundant light, of course.
Friendly tip: If you don't have a cool room or bright window, don't even try. You will suffer!
Imagine, comrade. Your petunia grew on the windowsill, let it stretch out, but survived until spring. And what cuttings will you remove from a tortured bush, or a bald liana or a stick? Right. Weak and weak.
"You're lying, Fedya. It will be light and cool for me "
Okay, persuaded. Let's now imagine a petunia bush conditionally grown in ideal conditions in an apartment. Where, excuse me, to do with it? I'm not even talking about the "Tidely" type.
Any ampelous petunias in comfortable conditions will occupy half of the windowsill (at least!). And you can't remove the room deeper: there is already little light.
The main question is: why?
We have already understood that petunia is not a geranium. Is it worth the candle?
- It is much easier and calmer to grow seedlings in the spring than shaking on frail branches from September to April.
- Traditionally, it is customary to "preserve" vegetative petunia, the color of which is not transmitted by seeds. But... What for? If you can buy new seedlings in the spring. Trust me: you will spend a lot more on soil, fertilizer and lighting of rooted cuttings.
Conclusion: If you do not have a winter garden, keeping a petunia by cutting does NOT save anything. No strength, no time, no money, no nerves. I urge conscientious citizens not to engage in nonsense!
Do you think the article was also interesting? Press, comrade, "Thumbs up"!
Sincerely yours, urging to think with your head and not be led by dubious promises of savings, Fyodor Tyapkin-Sklyankin, who threw rooted cuttings of his wife into the compost.
