An important point!
Wood must be dealt with as soon as it is brought to the construction site. It categorically cannot be kept in a heap - this is how it is guaranteed to be deformed. The lumber must be stacked in a special way on a flat surface. It must not be stored on the grass! Organize your lumber storage according to our advice. Building materials today very expensive, so you need to take care of them!
1. Sort out bad wood
Sort out blackened and fungus-affected lumber before organizing storage. These boards must be kept separately.
2. Clean sawn timber from small sawdust
In the process of wood processing, sawdust is generated, which falls on the boards. Before storage, these sawdust must be swept away, as mold can form in the place of their accumulation.
3. Process the ends
Wood is a material with a heterogeneous structure. Moisture evaporates from different parts of it at different rates. Especially strong evaporation of moisture occurs from the ends, in connection with which they cracking. Before organizing storage, it is necessary to apply drying oil or paint to the ends.
4. Choose a flat area without vegetation
To store lumber, you need to choose a flat, dry area of soil, on which, moreover, puddles will not form during precipitation. To raise the first row and provide ventilation, place bricks on the ground, and bars on them.
5. Lay boards on spacers
Between the rows of boards / beams, be sure to put spacers made from dry boards, picket fences, bar. In the best way, boards are stored in stacks up to 1.8 meters high, in which there are spacers between each row at least two centimeters high. At least one spacer is required for every meter of board. That is, so that the six-meter board does not deform, it must be placed on 6 lining boards. But it is better to put one intermediate block every 60-80 cm.
If, for example, there is no material for making spacers, you can fold the boards in a triangle, as shown in the photo. This will also ensure proper ventilation of the material during long-term storage. But this method is only suitable for storing fence boards or sections no more than three meters long.
6. Cover the top row
When the stack is formed, it must be covered with slate, profiled sheet or roofing felt. The wood must be protected from precipitation and sunlight. Under no circumstances should the sawn timber be wrapped in foil or other vapor-proof material! Condensation will form under the film, it will be warm and damp, and these are ideal conditions for mold.
