China plans to build a huge spacecraft directly in Earth orbit

The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) has called on scientists to join a massive five-year project to study the mechanics of an extra-large spacecraft. At the same time, according to the roadmap of the project, scientists should study the possibility of creating a spacecraft directly in the orbit of our planet.

So in the description of the project it is said that a huge spacecraft may turn out to be the main aerospace object for the future use of space resources, the study of the secrets of the universe, as well as the rather long stay of people on orbit.

According to the project, it is planned to build a modular spacecraft. In this case, the main nodes will be assembled on the surface of the planet and ascended into orbit, where the final assembly will be carried out.

This option was approved due to the fact that a fully assembled ship would be too heavy to fully lift it into low-earth orbit.

So the scientists will be tasked with a detailed study of the structure of the ship in order not only to lighten its weight as much as possible (in order to minimize the number of launches from the surface), but also to guarantee the controllability of the structure in order to minimize possible displacements, deformations and vibration. This is necessary for a trouble-free and successful assembly of the ship.

I would like to note that this is just one of ten projects that will be financed by the authorities. China has recently been investing substantial funds in its space program, and it must be admitted quite successfully. So China is the second country that managed to land its research rover on Mars.

In addition, Chinese forces are also assembling a national space station in orbit. So in the implementation of a project to build a super-large ship directly in orbit is readily believed.
