A year ago, we moved from a provincial town to our house, which is located in a village. The history of our move from city to village lasted 5 years - that's how long we built a new house. Our family consists of three people, our son is a student. The eldest daughter and her family live separately in a neighboring town.

Having left the city, we faced a considerable number of new tasks, which we solve with pleasure and we know that we are doing everything only for ourselves, and not for an apartment building!
Many people today dream of leaving the city and living closer to nature. But in order to decide on this, you need to provide yourself with conditions that are no worse and even better than in a city apartment.
In the old days, there were many episodes in the movies and books, in which it was told that a lightning rod was needed on the house. Especially often I've seen this kind of thing in Hollywood movies. There, a lightning strike into the house is a fairly common plot.
But when we built a house, designed it and thought over all the details with specialists, no one even remembered the need for such a device. Of course, such a detail did not occur to us ourselves, there were many other subtleties. But then an incident occurred that made us think about the lightning rod.
On a rest
We were relaxing on the river bank with friends, this is a beautiful place next to a pine forest. We set up tents, fished, cooked fish soup.
According to the forecast, a thunderstorm was planned, but we were ready to take cover in order to wait out this bad weather. And at night again the forecast promised a starry sky and calm.
And so, the thunderstorm began, it was right above us, as lightning and thunder were at the same time. And then in the tent we heard a terrible rumble somewhere nearby and the impact of a fallen tree. At first, leaving the hiding place, we did not notice anything, but soon we saw this picture.
The lightning struck a tall pine tree that even smoked.
It was a tall tree. We don't know if it's the highest or not. It is hard to say.
The pine fell, breaking into several pieces. I will not even describe our emotions, I think that everyone understands them. Talking about something else.
Our thoughts
And when we returned home, the conversation revolved around a thunderstorm. It was then that I asked if lightning could strike our house. It is, of course, not very high, but still - with an attic, that is, two floors.
Returning home, I called a friend of the engineer, with whom we constantly consulted on the construction. He said that now there is no need for lightning rods on houses. The fact is that there are many more "attractive" objects for lightning around - pipes of industrial enterprises, television towers, communication towers. Lightning rods are necessarily arranged on them. The probability of getting into our house, near which, by the way, several tall lindens grow, is very low. Moreover, there are no protruding parts such as towers, weather vane and other "lightning rods".
Of course, he reassured us, but I still looked at the information on the Internet. Indeed, the probability of lightning striking a private house is close to a hundredth of a percent.
