I saw a compost bin in the store and I don't understand why it is better than a homemade one
A year ago, we moved from a provincial town to our house, which is located in a village. The history of our move from city to village lasted 5 years - that's how long we built a new house. Our family consists of three people, our son is a student. The eldest daughter and her family live separately in a neighboring town.
On the channel, we tell stories about our village life, reflect on things that are important to us.
Having left the city, we faced a considerable number of new tasks, which we solve with pleasure and we know that we are doing everything only for ourselves, and not for an apartment building!
Many people today dream of leaving the city and living closer to nature. But in order to decide on this, you need to provide yourself with conditions that are no worse and even better than in a city apartment.
Today my daughter came from a hypermarket of gardening goods and said that she had looked after herself a compost bin, inexpensively, for only 4,000 rubles. I was surprised what this box was, and she enthusiastically showed me the photographs.
Of course, the composter looks very nice, made of plastic, with a lid. Its advantages are that any of the three tiers can be opened separately and a more mature compost can be reached from a certain height. There is a lid, that is, there is no need to cover a fresh compost bin with plastic wrap, as we do.
The only drawback is the price. Still, 4170 rubles is a rather big amount. And if you take into account that you need at least two compost bins, and preferably three, then it becomes completely depressing.
In our family, it is customary to put all plant waste in a compost bin. Nothing disappears, only the roots of the weeds I dry and burn, so as not to bring them to the site again. And my daughter remembers how I told her - look, we put only grass, leaves. And next year I will show you what will come of it. And she was surprised to see real earth in the compost, without any signs of vegetation. She remembered this moment forever - how the soil is formed. Therefore, in her minimal garden, the daughter also collects all the grass in compost - lawn and weeds. They don't grow as many vegetables as we do. I myself am against it, let her have more free time. And my garden is a pleasure.
But our compost bin is made from planks that were left from the formwork during the construction of the house. Such boards, impregnated with concrete, rot less. And after the end of the season, I pack the resulting pile of plant debris with plastic wrap and press it down with bricks, where it rotts perfectly. Next summer we use a new compost bin, and we take humus from the third one, which by this time has already ripened.
But back to the purchase that the daughter has outlined. In addition to the green composter, she also photographed a brown one, but it costs 2,290 rubles. It is just a frame, it has no cover or opening walls. Too expensive.
My daughter decided to buy herself two green composters so that they look decent on the site, do not take up much space and give her good compost for the beds.
I did not dissuade her from buying - with such prices for wood that exist now, you still need to calculate how expensive it is. Buy boards, make a frame, a lid so that it looks neat and practical - it will also take a lot of money.
What do you think of such a composter?
