What flowers can be sown in the fall, right under the snow. And do not suffer in the spring with seedlings
Do you want to get a beautiful flower garden next year without hassle (yes, it's time to think about it!)? Then a fiery salute, cunning gardener! Today on the agenda are beautiful annuals that do not mind unceremonious planting in the fall under the snow.. Yes, yes, you can free up space on the windowsills and under the lamps for another variety of tomatoes, without occupying it with flower seedlings.
The subtleties of sowing flowers before winter
What does not freeze will germinate. But in my article I have collected flowers, the seeds of which survive the average Russian winter best. And sowing under the snow has its advantages:
- seeds that have lain in the ground in winter undergo natural stratification (read - cold treatment).
- the seeds will start to grow as soon as favorable conditions develop.
- plants from hardened seeds, grown from childhood on the street, are surprisingly unpretentious and indestructible.
Every day I read a dozen comments that I’m only here and engaged in deceiving readers. But Fedor is always honest with you and speaks truthfully about the cons:
- sowing before winter is always a risk, so citizens need to be prepared that something will not sprout.
- melt water will move the seeds: if you plant petunia in one place, it can float away from there and move a dozen centimeters.
Doesn't it scare you? Then flip through my colorful list!
Petunia
Since I started talking about petunia, then I will not torment. Petunias survive the winter well and vigorously emerge as a self-seeding. The only caveat is that purchased seeds of chic hybrids may not survive the winter. But assembled independently - quite. Only they do not always repeat the color of the mother plant, more and more often leaving in a dull lilac.
But, if unpredictability does not scare you, then you will save yourself from the lion's share of spring sowing work. After all, it is customary to sow petunia in March. Yes, and with her seedlings, sometimes too much fuss is obtained.
2 bright daisies at once
Bright daisies in warm colors always give the site a special coziness. It's great that one of them - calendula - completely unpretentious.
Comrade! If you are at the dacha on raids, you are not ready to devote a lot of time to the flower garden, or simply too lazy to dig there - this calendula. She forgives everything. For intelligent florists, there are terry varieties on sale.
If you want to dress up a little - buy seeds rudbeckia brilliant. She has bred many beautiful decorative varieties. It's like echinacea, only yellow-orange. And look how invitingly her dark middle eyes look!
Note to a friend: Rudbeckia is also a perennial. Sowing this in autumn is a long-term investment in the future!
Due to its unpretentiousness, rudbeckia is not far from calendula. But it looks completely different. Just please don't put them together. Otherwise, you will get a lurid flower bed.
A new planting method for familiar colors
Seeds of 2 plants with small flowers at once are ready to survive the winter under the snow. A colorful border or a bright glade can be made by sowing good old Snapdragon. Considering the plant's fast growth rates, when sowing under the snow, you will see flowers in the first month of summer.
The second small flower - alissum. The honey smell becomes its specialty. I will not say that the plant is directly decorative: to me personally, it resembles a weed. Until it blooms. But for the smell, the ability to create snow-white pillows and cascades in hanging pots makes you buy a bag of seeds every year.
The list continues with another fragrant flower - matiolla, which is popularly called the night violet (thanks for not being a butterfly). She distinguished herself by the fact that the smell intensifies in the evening and at night. And during the day, these are attractive candle flowers.
An elegant carpet flower is purslane. It is notable for the fact that it is absolutely drought-resistant and is ideal for areas under the scorching sun. Growing difficulty level is 1 out of 10.
Unlike the purslane, it rises cosmeya. Pastel daisies swaying in the wind with delicate greenery. My favorite for decorating outbuildings and compost bin.
The article would be incomplete without nasturtium. A beautiful climbing plant with vibrant flowers and cheerful greenery. Like purslane, it can do without regular watering. Its large pea seeds survive the winter under the snow almost without loss.
By the way, why did everyone quit planting cornflowers? A primordially Russian flower of not the most common blue color will give any flower bed an advantageous identity. And if you want something bright and exotic - long live the seeds bright Turkish carnation!
Do you like flowers and was this article helpful? Click, comrade, "Thumbs up"! Sincerely yours, sorted out (bags of seeds, of course) Fyodor Tyapkin-Sklyankin.
