How much and for what we overpay to construction firms: I share my personal experience

If you have never encountered construction and renovation, then you will surely have a question: should you hire an ad master or order a repair in a firm? Arguments for choosing an artist are usually as follows:

• The firm is reliable, it provides a contract and gives a guarantee; educated engineers and qualified specialists work in the companies - they will do everything in accordance with the technology and after them there is no need to redo anything.
• The advertiser does not provide a contract and can only give an oral, unsubstantiated guarantee. He can be self-taught or an uneducated guest worker and do everything poorly and contrary to technology.

But, be that as it may, everyone has their own opinion and their own right to choose. Our next interlocutor, Alexey, shared his experience of hiring a company as a performer. How much he overpaid in the end - read on.

Why exactly the firm

I needed to repair a small loggia - only 4 sq. meters. The work front is as follows:

• raising the floor (concrete base) by 8 cm;
• laying porcelain stoneware 60 * 60 cm - 4 sq. m;
• painting the walls in two layers (total area 15 sq. m);
• installation of a stretch ceiling - 4 sq. meters.

I started looking for masters. Since there are no acquaintances, I began to ring up the ads. It would seem that there are hundreds of ads and there will be no problems with repairs. But after spending the whole day on the phone, I realized that with such success, the repair of this small loggia will take 3-4 months. All the foremen are either busy and are released in at least a month, or they are not interested in such a scanty amount of work. It turns out that a big problem came out of the small loggia. I got tired of calling and persuading and I decided to go to a company located in the next house.

Despite the high season, the application was accepted here and the measurer was sent on the same day. He took off the measurements, and an hour later he provided an estimate. The price suited me and we agreed on the terms - 2 weeks. The work started the next day. Looking ahead, I will say that they met the deadlines and completed the work to a solid four. There are no complaints about them.

What are the prices or how much more do firms charge?

If we compare prices, then I will write how much the ad masters asked for all positions and how much I paid the company. I indicate the price of work only, the material is not included (except for the stretch ceiling).

Raising the floor (8 cm) and laying porcelain stoneware (4 sq. meter):

• the craftsmen asked for 7.5 thousand rubles for all the work;
• I gave 16 thousand rubles to the company.

Installation of a stretch ceiling (4 sq. meter):

• the masters asked for 5.5 thousand rubles (includes the installation of two points of light);
• paid 8.5 thousand to the company.

Wall painting in two layers (total area 15 sq. m):

• the masters asked for 3.5 thousand rubles;
• the company took 6.2 thousand rubles.

It turns out that I overpaid 14.2 thousand rubles to the company for my small loggia. This is almost twice as much! And if you contact the company, then be prepared to overpay twice as compared to the prices of the ad masters. It concerns how renovationand construction sites. The prices for everything are much higher than those of the brigades. But the "firms" did everything quickly and there was nothing to complain about. And most importantly, they saved from the headaches of finding performers.

Another important point. Firms have at least some kind of professional ethics. They will not "sew" with a small amount of work. They will not declare that they are not interested in you with your pennies, as one "gold" master told me on the phone. Imagine that you have consulted a doctor, and he will tell you that he is not interested in you. How will you feel? And in the company, although it is expensive, they solve problems.
