In China, they learned how to get starch from carbon dioxide, in the end it turned out 8.5 times faster than usual
The company's engineers have created a low-cost technology for converting carbon dioxide into starch. The new technology has a low cost of all components, which will accelerate the production of starch by 8.5 times.
New technology for the production of starch from the Middle Kingdom
A scientific group of chemists led by Ma Yanhe (President of the Institute of Industrial Biotechnology of the CAS, Tianjin), decided to apply the earlier developments of scientists.
So, in the course of laboratory research, engineers studied the reactions of synthesis of this carbohydrate taking place in cells. higher plants, then key enzymes were identified, which are involved in the transformation process molecules CO2 into simple carbohydrates, and then, as the combination occurs in polymer starch threads.
It was decided to use an ordinary solar panel as a source of energy to ensure the reaction, which breaks down CO2, resulting in carbon monoxide and hydrogen.
As a result of numerous further experiments, engineers have collected a certain set of enzymes and conditions for the rapid conversion of significant volumes of CO2 into the purest starch. However, the entire conversion process took only four hours.
So scientists managed to get a working technology for producing starch, which showed a record efficiency and 8.5 times higher than usual indicators of a similar kind for corn, as well as other plants.
In addition, the relatively low cost of key components will also make the resulting starch even cheaper.
As we can see, the chemical industry does not stand still and it is likely that very soon cheap Chinese starch, obtained by the new method, will appear on the shelves. And what else chemists will manage to create, the question remains open.
