Chinese company builds the world's largest and most powerful wind turbine, capable of providing 20,000 homes with electricity

A Chinese company called MingYang Smart Energy has begun building the world's largest wind turbine for coastal use.

The plant under construction was named MySE 16.0-242 and will have an installed capacity of 16 MW. This is one minute more than the previous record holder Haliade-X from General Electric, whose capacity was 14 MW.

Technical parameters and prospects of the new wind turbine

The wind generator MySE 16.0-242 is a construction with a height of considerable 250 meters. At the same time, the installed turbine will be able to generate so much electricity that it will be enough to supply 20,000 houses at once. And the service life of the installation will be equal to 25 years.

Thus, just one generator of the new type will generate up to 80,000 MWh per year, which is 45% more at once than the previous version of MySE 16.0-203.

As the engineers emphasize, their rig, which will reach a height of 264 meters when fully assembled, can be installed either on a rigid base on the seabed or on a floating platform. By the way, only one blade will be 118 meters long.

According to the plan, the first prototype of the new wind turbine will be ready for testing in 2022, and its installation will be carried out in the first half of 2023. And already a full-fledged commercial production of such turbines, according to the plan, should begin at the beginning of 2024.

So, just one such generator for a full cycle of operation of 25 years will prevent the emission of 1.6 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. With its generators, the Chinese company plans to expand its global presence in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and the Americas.

Despite all the difficulties, "green" energy is developing, including wind generators. We will watch the development of the company from the Middle Kingdom and when it decides to build an even larger generator.
