Unit 2 was shut down at Rostov NPP after a steam leak was discovered due to a defect in the weld
At the moment, the second power unit of the Rostov NPP has been shut down in order to make it possible to carry out the regulated repair work.
So, during a routine inspection of the equipment by the station personnel, the release of water vapor was found occurring on the pipeline with a diameter of 18 millimeters.
This pipeline is an integral part of the system responsible for controlling the level and humidity of the steam directly in the steam generator. And as experts emphasize, it (the system) belongs to the second "green" circuit through which non-radioactive water is passed.
After the leak was recorded, the second power unit was taken out of operation (all in accordance with the regulations and by agreement of all authorities) for the reason that it is simply impossible to carry out restoration work on a defective seam on operating equipment.
For reference. Rostov NPP is located only 16 km from the city of Volgodonsk (Rostov Region). The total capacity of all four power units of the station is 4.03 GW. The NPP uses VVER-1000 reactors. The second power unit was brought to the minimum controllable power level back in January 2010, and on March 16, 2010 power unit No. 2 was put into operation.
This power unit was the first in the Russian Federation to be commissioned after the notorious Rosatom corporation was established.
Test measurements of the background radiation both at the station and in the adjacent security zone are within acceptable limits.
Power units numbered 3 and 4 are in operation and their parameters are normal. But power unit number 1 has been under scheduled maintenance since September 18.
Well, we will monitor the development of the situation and hope that this minor incident will not receive any development in the future.
