Back draft: smoke goes into the room when the stove is fired up. I thought it wouldn’t get rid of it, but I found a reason and a way out.
A wood stove in your home is not only warmth, coziness and a beautiful view of a light, but also additional difficulties. In addition to preparing firewood and excess garbage in the house, the heating process itself has its own nuances. But you can learn everything ...
Friends, greetings to all. I have already devoted several articles to the installation of my long-burning furnace.
And after the work done, I relaxed a little, deciding that now it remains to enjoy the results ...
But in operation, it also has its own nuances, which, I think, need to be shared.
Each stove has its own characteristics.
Even more, it is the combination of the stove and a specific chimney that gives the final result. And it takes practice to get the most out of the whole system.
✔ First, the mode of operation. Specifically, my stove is designed for a slow burning (smoldering) mode, when one bookmark of firewood is enough for several hours of operation (I use the powerful open fire mode only during the first heating, after the stove is idle
). And in order to choose the right mode, you need to understand where to "tweak".✔ Adjusting dampers. In my case, these are three tools: a chimney gate, an ash box, and an air damper.
This is more than enough to make the flame burn just the way you want it.
✔ But intermittent heating brings its own surprises.
This is how I now use the stove in my home under construction.
Having come one day, and deciding to light up the stove, I was faced with an incomprehensible phenomenon. When fired up, the smoke poured into the interior in clubs. This surprised me a lot, since before that I had been using the stove for several weeks and everything was fine.
"Is the chimney clogged?" - was the first thought.
Moreover, they were frightened by the stories that the horizontal section is clogged up very quickly. But I couldn’t believe that it was that much ...
Having checked this problem area through "revision, I did not see anything terrible. But that didn't make it any easier.
Only by looking for information on the Internet, I found the answers:
- Airlock.
We all know that the air (along with the smoke) moves from the zone of high pressure to the zone of low pressure, respectively, from warm to cold. And in the off-season, a situation may arise that it will be colder in an unheated room than outside (sharp warming). Therefore, there can be a reverse draft from the warm outside air to a cold room.
The fix is simple. It is enough to warm up the air in the chimney, for example, with the same gas burner.
- No air flow.
Many people forget about this, as do I. In order for the air to go out well through the chimney, and to have draft, it must come from somewhere in the same way. Of course, it is difficult to imagine a house completely sealed (there are minimal "holes in any case), but this may not be enough, especially when kindling the stove.
And I was convinced of this clearly: if, with the windows closed, the flame in the furnace flares up unstably (then it burns, then it dies out), then if you open any window, then the draft immediately becomes stable.
These are simple manipulations, but perhaps not everyone knows about them.
I've come across this, started looking for a solution, and found out the truth, so to speak. And maybe many throw everything off on a bad stove, or the wrong chimney, but everything is much simpler ...
