Homemade chimney ejector: will it solve draft problems, or will it only ruin the chimney? I definitely won't put it on myself.
It is not always possible to follow all the rules when installing a chimney in your home (height, straightness, etc.). But nowadays this is not a problem, there are some devices that help compensate for design flaws, and allow you to improve traction. But not everything can be trusted ...
Friends, everyone is a huge hello. A chimney recently installed in my house falls under the term "IMPACT".
In terms of height and diameter, everything falls within the norms, but there are two disadvantages:
- The position of the top of the pipe is below the ridge.
- The presence of a horizontal section.
So far, after almost two months of using my oven, I have not felt any particular discomfort, there is a craving.
It is not quite stable only when kindling, and in a very strong wind (once there was).
Otherwise, no problems.
But you want everything to be perfect.
And I decided to look for options on how to improve this cravings. And there are plenty to choose from.
Starting from simple solutions, such as deflectors, and ending with special fans and chimney nozzles that help remove smoke.
Among all this, I was interested in one self-made option.
This is a chimney ejector.
The essence of the device is as follows: a small diameter pipe is built into the chimney channel, which is placed along the direction of smoke movement. Air is supplied to it by a fan, which creates additional thrust.
- Everything is simple, and is made from inexpensive components.
- In my case, it is easy to build in through the condensate trap.
No heat-resistant fans or similar expensive equipment.
But I was confused by all this simplicity.
As the "inventors" of this technology say, such a system reduces the adhesion of soot, because it flies out of the chimney with a high draft.
But everyone forgets about one important nuance ...
When, with the help of this ejector, we supply cold air into the chimney, we thereby cool all gases and create conditions for the formation of condensate, and in very large quantities.
âś… Namely, condensate is the main enemy of the chimney, which contributes to the blockage of the chimney and has a corrosive effect on the metal.
Therefore, after all, they invented precisely in-channel fans for the chimney (heat-resistant), which drive exactly hot smoke.
The maximum where you can adapt such a homemade product is at the upper end of the chimney.
But not every chimney allows it. Here in my case, it is problematic to fence something ...
