Rolled fence from curious neighbors: what it is, its advantages and how to install
An artificial hedge can be called an intermediate link between a blank fence and a translucent fence. It hides what is happening on the private territory from prying eyes, although it is not an impenetrable wall that completely isolates the courtyard from the outside world.
The so-called "roll-up fence" has its advantages, and it is often installed around country cottages or private estates.
What is an artificial decorative fence
At its core, a decorative roll-up fence is a mesh braided with a polymer or fabric material that imitates stems and leaves. As a rule, it is made in green color and stylized for a certain type of coniferous or deciduous plants: spruce, bindweed, ivy.
A grid-fence is installed as a normal fence around the perimeter of summer cottages and adjacent territories. It is used to create screens around recreation areas, swimming pools, sports or playgrounds. It can also be used to decorate gazebos, open terraces, balconies or facades of houses. Since the mesh is produced in different heights (from 50 cm to 2 m) and is sold by running meters, you can buy as much of it as you need to upgrade a particular structure.
Advice. To add naturalness to the artificial fencing, it can be supplemented with hanging flowerpots with ampelous plants.
Advantages and disadvantages of a roll fence
Of course, it is very difficult to take an artificial hedge for a real one. Even looking at it from a distance, doubts arise about the natural origin of vegetation. But this does not detract from her merits. The main thing is that it does not need care, which is carried out for living plants: watering, cutting, fertilizing, protecting against pests and diseases, cleaning fallen leaves.
The disadvantages include the wear and tear of the material from which the "leaves" are made. They can fade in the sun and become brittle due to temperature changes. But this applies mainly to cheap (budget) options. High-quality products can serve for 8 years or more without loss of decorative effect.
How to install a decorative fence
Due to its flexibility, a roll-up fence cannot be installed without auxiliary supports. Most often it is mounted on posts connected by transverse bridges. If the fence is 2 m high, it is advisable to make three crossbars: along the upper and lower edges and in the middle. For low fences (up to 1.5 m), only two jumpers can be made. The mesh is fastened with plastic ties, metal clamps or screwed with steel wire.
You can stretch the mesh over an old fence made of a chain-link mesh, welded mesh or profile mesh.
In this case, an artificial fence is selected according to the height of the existing fence and is attached from the side of the street. During the installation process, it is important to ensure that the new coating adheres tightly to the old structure and does not sag. To do this, you need to stretch the canvas well and use more fasteners.
If you want the fence to look perfect from all vantage points, you can stretch the decorative mesh from the outside and inside. In this case, there will be two "faces" - from the street and from the yard.
In addition, such a coating will turn out to be denser, almost like a real hedge.
