Protecting wood from decay and moisture: stabilizing wood using old-fashioned and modern methods
Wood - the most demanded natural building and decorative material. It is often required to protect the tree from rotting, moisture. To do this, use paints, varnishes, oil, wax. If everything is done correctly, then you can get a strong and strong wood that will be resistant to external factors.
The texture of the wood after processing is dense. One of the technologies for wood processing is stabilization. How to stabilize this material? There are many products: varnishes, resins, liquid glass, drying oil, polymers, birch sap, saline, oils.
Liquid glass
The old grandfather's method. It has such advantages: good adhesion, economy and low price. After hardening, the surface is smooth. Plots are processed in basements, attics, floor beams, etc. No bad smell.
Before applying, be sure to prime.
After the first coat has dried, it is better to sand for a high gloss and smoothness. Then apply the second one with sanding after hardening, the third and so on the following layers. This has been done before. the wood was tinted and sanded with each layer. Then it turned out that at a certain angle the wood played with different shades (like a chameleon).
Brine
Serves to stabilize wood. Take 1 tbsp. l. salt and dissolves in a liter of cold water. Wooden blanks are processed by boiling for about 2-4 hours.
Drying oil
Provides reliable protection against decay, deformation, destruction. Indoors, it is better to process wood with natural drying oil.
Polymer impregnation for wood
Modern stabilization method. For example, the composition of Anacrol-90. At high temperatures, the impregnation transforms into a thermosetting polymer. There is also "100therm" - for home and industrial conditions. Means "Buravid" for polymerization. Its density is like water, but when exposed to temperature it becomes solid.
Epoxy resin
When one agent is added to the epoxy, the wood acquires the properties of plastic. During processing, it preserves the beautiful appearance of the material.
The resin is diluted with acetone for a more fluid composition. Proportions: 25% epoxy and 75% acetone. Add acetone before adding the hardener. It turns out the composition is like a liquid paint. Apply to wood. Resin like a silicone sealant every other day. After 3 days as rubber. When heat treated, it becomes a building hair dryer like a stone.
