My indoor potted flowers do not cause gnats and mold odor
In the new house, we still have very few indoor flowers. I don't see any point in growing flowers on the windowsill, because we have beautiful curtains behind which these plants are completely invisible. But even if the curtains are pulled back, then I like the landscape outside the window more - the garden at different times of the year, the sky with a constant change of scenery and other things that are more pleasant to watch than pots with plants. This is not a city with its monotonous gray picture.
What grows with me
Therefore, at the moment only Bonsai tomatoes grow on the windowsill, which constantly bear fruit. And three more pots are on the floor. Ficuses of rubber and Benjamin grow in them. These are my favorite home plants.
But, if I - at least allow the cultivation of some crops in the house, then my sister, in principle, does not recognize the pot culture. She believes that only dirt, debris and an unpleasant smell from the pot come from the plants. Even the theoretical possibility of the appearance of insects irritates her especially. And this possibility is very real. And sometimes white midges appeared, then fruit flies that settle in the soil of the pot.
But recently I have found a completely simple, free and, most importantly, an effective way to prevent the appearance of insects.
Three actions to kill insects
In order for the soil in pots to be healthy, the necessary soil bacteria constantly develop in it and unnecessary bacteria do not appear, it must be subjected to three measures of influence:
1. Loosen the top layer. At about 1-1.5 centimeters of depth, the soil should be airy, loosened. I do this with a bamboo roll stick, it is very convenient and safe for the plant. Such an air layer does not allow insects to hatch their larvae.
2. Do not overmoisten plants in winter. The windowsill is cold, the damp ground is very dangerous under these conditions. Therefore, it is imperative to make pallets for pots. They will insulate the cold. And in indoor flowers, "legs and head" will not differ sharply in temperature.
3. Mulch the soil with wood ash. After watering, you need to sprinkle a thin layer of ash. It contains tiny particles of coal that absorb harmful solutions and excess water. At the same time, ash is also an excellent fertilizer and provides plants with potassium, which is so necessary for beautiful foliage. And since I grow deciduous crops in rooms, potassium is vital for them. Also tomatoes are very fond of potash fertilizers. They become sweet, elastic and bright from him.
This is a completely simple agricultural technique that does not require the investment of time and money, will give you real beauty and comfort in the house. After all, well-groomed, clean plants with shiny leaves from time immemorial have been an adornment of any room - both the palace and the village hut. And for those who believe in any isotericism and energy flows, plants are all the more necessary. They soothe, purify the air and help people find balance.
