Tomato Long Keeper in search of a variety "until spring"
Why plant a tomato of a very average taste? Namely, Long Keeper? So it is stored until spring, as they write. If taken off immature. He, so to speak, does not have time to ripen.
Mine was in time! Seedlings were on March 12. The bush grew not at all as handsome as on the package:
On September 9, my picture was like this:
The height of the bush, yes, about 1.4 m, everything else ...
Theoretically, it should have been harvested 30-40 days before ripeness, until the tomatoes acquired a creamy pink color. But!
- I was worried about the taste, then I didn't want to try plastic. Collected later.
- And I did not notice this interesting pre-cream stage for collection at all. Perhaps a re-grading. Anyway, no Long Keeper anymore!
At the end of September I put the whole meager harvest in the freshness zone in the refrigerator. Already well colored, but firm.
Here, almost all the "catch", three things were eaten earlier, and completely green ones were left for disposal:
You understand what I think about the yield of these seeds.
I was not extreme, I was not going to wait until spring, I expected to try it by the New Year. And I had to, on November 22, urgently taste:
On the one hand, the taste is not the worst tomato. There is a peculiar note, a little sweetness, edible. On the other hand, when there are a lot of tasty and different ones, this is some kind of misunderstanding, not a tomato.
Perhaps he managed to pick up some kind of fungi, so he lost keeping quality, but did not show that something was wrong with him. The bush was quite healthy.
I won't plant any more, of course.
If anyone knows, really worthy maturing varieties, please share in the comments.
I would be grateful for your subscription and communication :)
