"Dowel-carrot" is a versatile tool with a little trick. But only a few know about it
In the last article, we discussed that in the objects around us there are things or details that are very important, but we do not know about it or do not pay attention to them. For example, here is the hole in the electrical plug that I wrote about on the channel. In addition, they are trying in every possible way to make life easier for us with various devices, but we do not use them out of ignorance or for other reasons))
In my work, I often come across craftsmen who carry huge overflowing boxes with tools, fasteners and dowels with them. A huge number of dowels for all occasions!
I asked many a question: "Why carry all this with you?"
To which he received the answer: "Just in case, so as not to run later, not to search."
Everything should be at hand! Even a hundred dowels for walls and surfaces of their different materials)) Although in fact, in our time, you can get by with a dozen specific dowels in your pocket.
In construction slang, such dowels are called "carrots". And such carrots allow you to throw the box with the rest of the dowels to the landfill. Well, either leave it in your workshop for an unlimited period)
So, why are "carrots" better than others?
"Dowel-carrot" is a universal dowel. This makes them very convenient and practical. "Carrot" can be attached to any wall - concrete, brick, drywall, thin plywood, gas block and any other, even hollow, material.
We drill a hole and hammer the "dowel-carrot" into it with a hammer. It attaches perfectly. The only thing to consider when working with hollow materials is that the fastening screw is a couple of millimeters longer than the carrot dowel. This is an important point that few people know about!
In full-bodied materials, the "dowel-carrot" works on the spacer. She bursts the hole with petals. In a hollow material, the "carrot" acts somewhat differently. The "carrot" is firmly tightened into a knot, thereby immobilizing the screw and fixing it in the hole.
But when working with solid material, the length of the screw is not important. When working with hollow materials, as I wrote above, it is imperative to select screws that are longer in length than the "dowel-carrot". This is an important trick that craftsmen should know!
And stop running around with your collection of multi-colored dowels! Don't make your life difficult!
