This year, Dill gave umbrellas only in the fall, and we managed to cut the greens in packages. Obeyed 3 rules
Do you want your dill to give juicy greens for a long time and throw away umbrellas only towards the end of summer? Then a fiery salute, comrade cunning gardener! Today on the agenda are 2 tips that helped me admire the dill, make it green for as long as possible and persuade my wife to cut several bags for freezing.
Dill problems
At the beginning of summer, citizens demand greens from dill. Cut into a vitamin salad, for example. Or a young potato (I write and smell).
But then they appear - the umbrellas of the inflorescences. And let them appear! If simultaneously with their formation the quality of greenery did not deteriorate. This plant used to direct nutrition, vitamins and all vitality to the growth of openwork leaves.
Now that procreation is at stake, all resources are channeled into an umbrella for seed ripening. And dill greens become tough, almost tasteless and with a weakly expressed spicy smell. Fi!
Therefore, last spring I set a specific goal: to delay the appearance of dill umbrellas as long as possible.. A spoon is good for dinner, and they are good for autumn, when the time for winter harvesting comes. Break a bunch of information, settled on 3 tips.
Not this all in a row: look at the grade
Lovers of self-seeding and neighboring seeds will never convince me that it is pointless to choose varieties. Analyzing and buying what you need saves you a lot of frustration.
It's the same with dill. If you want to push back the flowering of dill - choose only a late-ripening variety. Well, or mid-season. These plants are genetically designed to throw away the umbrella as late as possible. And the growing season, when you can cut the greens, is quite extended in time.
Note to a friend: In the backyard, in terms of greenery, the already proven "Kibray" and the new recruit "Alligator" have proven themselves well.
This in handfuls
In the articles, this method of seeding is called the main key to success, but I would give it third place. On the first, after all, the grade.
The point is to sow the dill not in orderly rows or randomly, but in dense heaps or ranks. Remember that floriculture rule, where plants, well-lit by the sun, bloom earlier than others? Here we act the other way around: the artificially created tightness, in which the dill branches cover each other, postpones flowering.
Only, comrade, do not decide that you can simply sow dill in the shade. I hasten to remind you that normal lighting increases the amount of greenery and improves the taste. You should not sow seeds in a dark corner - it is better to just grow them in a voluminous bunch so that the sun bakes the tops of the heads.
Feed only organic
Fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium are strictly prohibited. Especially potassium. All of these treats provoke a rapid onset of flowering. When preparing a dill bed in the spring, do not cover up with universal fertilizers.
Only nitrogen! And preferably in the form of organic matter. Don't feed me bread, but let me bring in the present humus under the future dill. And during the season, you can pamper spicy plantings with nettle infusion or mullein solution - it's purely a matter of taste.
Do you like dill and was this article helpful? Press, comrade, "Thumbs up"!
Sincerely yours, making heaps of green all over the garden, Fyodor Tyapkin-Sklyankin.
