Very simple clamps for gluing thin panels: design and use
There was a need to glue thin oak panels. Earlier I made several wooden clamps for this purpose.
They showed themselves well when gluing boards from 10 to 25 mm., And now the task has appeared to glue thinner panels and such clamps as in the photo are not quite suitable for this.
But I remembered that I saw an interesting design of clamps, just for gluing very thin shields. I came across a description of these clamps in the book: “Woodwork. The Ultimate Guide to Making Stylish Home Furniture / Bill Hilton / 2017
I decided to repeat this design, especially since it is very simple and it took me no more than an hour to make 4 clamps.
For their manufacture, I prepared several bars of 40x40x100 mm. from birch. Threaded rods M10. Locking nuts, washers and winged nuts. (Scroll through the gallery)
In the bars, I first marked, and then drilled two through holes. To make the threaded rods pass easily holes drilled with a large diameter - 12 mm.
And then it remains to collect the clamps. On one side of the studs, I tightened a nut with a retaining ring. Then came the washer and two bars. Then again washers and lambs.
To test the work of the clamps, I glued a thin panel of two oak planks 5 mm thick.
He applied the glue in a thin layer on both edges to be glued, put the boards between the pins of the clamps, then tilted the clamps, while the pins turned out to be from different sides. He evenly distributed the clamps and tightened the lambs.
The compression force is sufficient, and due to the construction of the clamps, the panel to be glued is immediately leveled.
