Russian scientists will develop an innovative coating to protect rocket engine parts
Scientific group from Samara National Research University named after S. P. Koroleva will create an innovative plasma coating to reliably protect elements of rocket and aircraft engines from ultra-high temperatures.
New protection from Russian scientists
To develop and then test in practice a technology for obtaining an innovative heat-shielding plasma coating, the main the purpose of ongo will be in reliable thermal protection from temperatures of the order of 1500 degrees Celsius, scientists will need about two years.
This project won an earlier competition called “Clever Man” and eventually received funding.
So, according to theoretical calculations, the use of a new coating will allow at least twice increase the service life of important engine components, which are subjected to high heating.
This will save the inner surfaces of nozzles, combustion chambers, turbine blades, and other system elements from rapid destruction.
At the same time, engineers propose to apply the coating using plasma spraying. Thus, microscopic particles of a refractory substance (for example, zirconium oxide) will be fed into the plasma stream, which is directed to the coating being treated.
Due to acceleration and rapid heating in the plasma flow, particles falling on the part will settle on the material, thus creating a protective coating.
Moreover, such a coating can be quite compared with medieval chain mail, since it will not consist of a single layer, and from separate plates-scales, which will be fastened together, and located in a special okay. Moreover, each flake will be only 10 to 20 microns thick, and the total protective coating will not be thicker than half a millimeter.
It is such a coating that will protect the part and significantly extend its service life in the future.
Well, we will wait for the implementation of this project and the first real test data of parts covered with such innovative protection. Well, if you liked the material, then do not forget to rate it, as well as subscribe to the channel. Thank you for your attention!
