In the West, they believe that Gazprom does not intend to increase gas supplies and thus aggravates the energy crisis in Europe
So in a fairly authoritative Western edition of Bloomberg, a material was published in which it is believed that Russian company Gazprom intends not to book additional capacity through the gas pipeline Yamal-Europe.
In particular, for December 20, representatives of Gazprom ordered the minimum volume of transit capacities through the Polish section of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline to supply gas to consumers in the German territory.
And on that day, only 4% of the estimated maximum throughput of this gas pipeline was used, and subsequently, gas pumping was completely stopped. And transit through the Ukrainian territory has also been stopped.
What is the opinion of Western experts
European experts believe that such actions may well exacerbate the already developing energy crisis in Europe.
So, according to forecasts, the end of December and the beginning of January may turn out to be a rather cold period, and the average daily temperature may well go even below the climatic norm.
Also, according to the forecast, the wind during this period will be rather weak, and this will lead to a sharp decrease in energy production from wind turbines.
It is quite natural that this will lead to an increase in the load on European gas storage facilities, and at the moment they are already filled by only 60%, and this is the absolute minimum for this period of time.
According to the estimates of all the same Western experts, if Gazprom decides to increase supplies by only 20%, this will stabilize the situation in the West, but will lead to a sharp collapse in gas prices in region.
And again I emphasize, in the opinion of the Western “experts”, Gazprom intends not to increase supplies and keeps them at such a level to get the maximum benefit from the sale of expensive gas.
And what does the Russian side say?
A rather short but succinct answer was given to all these attacks from the West. Gas supplies are carried out strictly in accordance with the purchased volumes and in accordance with contractual obligations.
And through the Ukrainian territory, gas supplies are not carried out for the simple reason that for the current year all contractual supplies have been completed in full.
At the same time, I would like to note that the certification of the new Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline has been dragging on since the western side, since technically gas supplies via the new flow can be launched in the very near time.
Well, we will keep an eye on how the situation on this issue will develop and how the cold weather will affect the general attitude of the West towards Gazprom in general and Nord Stream 2 in particular.
