They say that the recuperator is more trouble than good. Where are the main vulnerabilities, and what to do with them (using the example of my homemade)?

Before I had time to fully assemble and test a home-made recovery system in my house, they already tell me what will be wrong with it and what are the main drawbacks. Gentlemen, don't be in a hurry... Much (I hope all) I have taken into account in advance.

Friends, welcome to my channel. Yes, the work on making a recuperator with your own hands is slowly moving forward. And despite all the excuses, I'm not going to give up this business.

They say that the recuperator is more trouble than good. Where are the main vulnerabilities, and what to do with them (using the example of my homemade)?

In general, I'm already used to the fact that some readers of my articles, in the comments, predict a failure in all my endeavors. I don't take offense at you. On the contrary, I want to fully convey my thoughts and views so that you understand me...

And I understand that there are also many questions with the recuperator.

Therefore, in this article, I want to talk about the main fears that may be associated with a recuperator. And the main thing is to answer the question of what I will do with it, in the manufacture of this device, with my own hands.

Condensation formation.

This is the first and most common question. Indeed, in the process of heat transfer (which is the purpose of the recuperator), without the formation of condensate can not do. But you don't have to be afraid of it.

  • Firstly, I initially planned where I would hang my installation. This will be a room for a bathroom, so condensate drainage is not a problem.
  • Secondly, in the recuperator itself, I provided holes for draining condensate. Nothing complicated or supernatural.
Condensate will be drained approximately according to this principle (the image is taken for clarity from Yandex Pictures).

Formation of fungus, mold, etc.

This is already as a consequence after the condensate. Of course, a humid environment is a good condition for the reproduction of any "evil spirits". And even factory recuperation and air conditioning systems sin with this.

My homemade product in this regard will not be unique. And the only way out is prevention. Those. it is necessary to provide convenient access to the insides of the recuperator, for regular treatment with some kind of disinfectant.

The same products that are used for air conditioners are also suitable in my case (image from Yandex Pictures).

Freezing of heat exchangers.

This problem also stems from the formation of condensate. But if this does occur, then at very low temperatures (-25, -30 ° C), which happens infrequently (I'm talking about my Leningrad region).

And most importantly, it can be dealt with in fairly simple ways.

For example, additional heating of the supply air, or an imbalance between supply and exhaust, in favor of the exhaust. And both of these methods can be automated.

Dirt in the recuperator.

How will I clean all these channels in the heat exchanger?

Foil heat exchangers in my recuperator.

I'm just trying to minimize dirt ingress. And this is done by installing air filters. Again, nothing supernatural.

In general, what is the point in this recuperator?

And many people ask this question, not seeing the economic benefits in this device.

❗ Here I did not make calculations of how much I will spend on arranging the system, and how soon it will pay off. Several points are important to me.

Ventilation in my house is needed, period. No fresh air anywhere.

I will spend much less money on a home-made recuperator than on a purchased one, that's for sure (and the difference here is dozens of times).

Some efficiency, my homemade will still give. And it's better than just scattering heat, as with conventional ventilation.

So it remains only to implement everything already, but as soon as possible.

And I'm working on it... Soon the heat exchanger itself will be ready, and we will actually check all my theory.

Friends, I'm waiting for your opinion in the comments. And if you have experience in this matter, then you simply have to share it. It's always helpful.
