I didn’t understand: why do I need a red sealant (up to 350 ° C), if there is a black one (holds up to 1500 ° C)? Found out the difference in practice.
In the construction of my house, heat-resistant sealant appeared when I decided to install a long-burning stove to heat the house. And in the installation of the chimney, it was exactly what was needed.
Arriving at the store, of course, without hesitation, I bought the most heat-resistant (black, up to 1500°C).
"After all, the more it keeps the temperature, the better!" That's what I was thinking at the time.
And at the same time, there was some bewilderment, from the fact that there was a red sealant nearby on the counter, which can withstand a maximum of 315 ° C, and at the same time it also cost a little more 🤷♂️...
But after a while, the opinion has changed. And I have both of these copies at home.
Now I understand that each has its own properties, and its purpose, which can be useful in one situation, and not work at all in another.
But for this it was necessary to try everything.
✅ Black sealant.
At first, I used it when joining chimney pipes ...
At that time, I had not yet thought about its properties. Sealant means sealing gaps. I didn't want to know more...
But when I tried to cover up the joint of the sandwich in the passage through the wall with it, I was surprised by the result.
The black sealant just dried out, turned to stone and cracked.
❗ No matter how strange it may sound, but this is its peculiarity.
Those. we get high heat resistance at 1500 ° C, but at the same time restrictions on use. For small gaps in the chimney, it fits perfectly (there is no need for elasticity), but simply sealing some seam from the outside will not work.
✅ Red sealant.
Kok once solves the issue of elasticity. I tried to cover up the same joint with them, and the result is more than satisfactory.
At this point, the pipe does not heat up much (not even 315 ° C), so that the heat resistance of the red sealant is sufficient, while maintaining the elasticity required there.
So even in sealants you can get confused ...
And in the decoration of the house, there are still many different types to try in different works.
Friends, as always, I look forward to your feedback in the comments. Your thoughts, opinions, and experiences are always helpful for a construction newbie like me.
