A unique device for studying the Earth will be installed on the Russian module of the ISS
The International Space Station (ISS) will still serve for the benefit of mankind for at least another eight years, so it is quite logical that the station will continue to develop and modernize.
So representatives of the Russian corporation Energia (part of Roskosmos) reported that in the near future the Russian part of the ISS will mount a unique hyperspectrometer device, which will allow more detailed production Earth sounding. That's about this event and will be discussed in the current material.
What will the new Russian device be capable of
This device, which consists of three parts (equipment module, specialized bracket, specially developed software) will be installed on the ISS as part of the Uragan experiment.
Indeed, as scientists note, various natural phenomena and directly human activities on the planet inevitably leave traces that are simply impossible to notice in a standard digital photograph.
It is possible to notice them just through the use of hyperspectral imaging. In fact, this technology can be compared with a microscope that allows you to "look" into the structure of the observed object.
So the new device will just collect (like a microscope) these data, which will be processed directly to the ISS, and the already processed data will be sent to the surface for subsequent analysis.
Scientists say that this approach will make it possible to more quickly not only analyze information, but also significantly reduce the amount of transmitted data.
For reference. The Hurricane project has been underway for 20 years, and during this time a huge amount of data has been collected on the rate of melting glaciers, the formation of landslides, volcanic activity, as well as a variety of both natural and man-made, fire, etc. P.
The new complex will make it possible to continue this important work and in the future even improve the quality of forecasting, which is extremely important for the modern world.
Well, it's nice that the Russian segment will receive such a unique and, of course, an important scientific instrument. And while the ISS is in orbit, important data will be processed and transmitted to Earth.
