Dense or airy?! Bright or bed? With pattern or without? If you are facing these questions, then “CONGRATULATIONS” repair has come to an end. And it's time to place the final accents. That is to pick up the "right" curtains!

Good afternoon dear friends!

My grandmother had curtains embroidered with satin stitch. They were a source of pride and did not change for decades. In other matters, like the entire interior as a whole. Now times have changed. Curtains have become more than just a fabric hanging on the window. They have become a key touch, a decorative element, an accent spot... there can be many epithets. But the fact remains. Textiles in a modern interior play a key role. And all why? Yes, because the curtains fill the interior, give it comfort, create a feeling of cocoon, "softness" and security. Therefore, just hanging beautiful textiles on the windows is no longer enough. Curtains should fit the interior, complement it.

But which ones to choose? To do this, first of all, you need to answer a couple of questions: What functions does the space itself perform? What is the style of the interior in it? What colors are already present in the room? What function should textiles perform? And only after that you can go to the store for curtains. After all, in the store you will find a huge selection. And it will be very easy to get lost in the variety of styles, colors and textures.

Many will brush it aside and say that there is a seller for this or you can choose curtains “like those of friends” - “After all, they look so good.” And this will be a stupid mistake, because what looks good with friends or the seller likes may not suit you at all. Since all people are different and the perception of space is also different for everyone! Curtains should fit exactly your space and you like it. In general, in order to help you in such a responsible event, I have prepared this material.

1.The problems they solve. Curtains, in addition to a purely decorative task, can perform many others. For example, to protect you and your household from prying eyes and / or provide good shading during sleep, or maybe opposite the curtains should let in daylight as much as possible and create a feeling of light veils. Today there are also special curtains with thermal lining. They will protect both from cold air from the window and from the scorching rays of the sun, preventing the temperature in the house from rising. Etc.

Therefore, before buying, determine what tasks your curtains should solve. It is very important! After all, thin natural fabrics will not save you from the cold in winter, and heavy velvet, plush or velor will stand out from the “airy interior”.

2.Color palette. Color is a nuance with which you will also have to decide at the initial stage. It is better to choose it based on the shades that are already in your interior. Curtains can echo the color of decor, paintings, furniture, walls or floors. For example, nude and caramel tones have become popular in recent years. You can also choose textiles in beige, white or light gray. All these colors look advantageous in small spaces.

Well, if you lack colors in winter, navy blue, green and muted orange-brown will be an excellent solution. Or textiles with floral and marine motifs.

3.Fabrics for curtains. Of course, flax and cotton are out of competition here. They suit almost all modern interiors and can decorate your home all year round. However, natural fabrics are not easy to care for. The modern textile industry offers a huge selection of fabrics made from natural materials with a small addition of polyester. It will cost less, and the appearance will not be inferior to natural ones.

However, you can choose velvet, and plush, and velor, and velveteen. These fabrics look great not only in a classic or neoclassical interior, but also in a loft, and even in a high-tech interior. The only negative is that in summer such curtains look hard.

4.curtain size. It doesn't matter whether you choose ready-made curtains or custom-made curtains. You need to know two parameters - width and length. To determine the first, it is necessary to measure the width of the window with the width of the platbands, and then multiply the resulting amount by 1.5. If you want to make an assembly or a beautiful “wave”, then multiply by a factor of 2. When choosing a length, first decide whether the curtains will lie on the floor or be just above the floor. Then measure the distance from the floor to the curtain, get the desired value.

And remember that long curtains can easily be made shorter, but short curtains are more difficult to build up.

5.Decorative "finishing" of curtains. An important nuance, because the fastening of curtains can be done in different ways. These can be hooks, loops, clips, drawstring, ties, eyelets or braid. The choice of method for attaching curtains depends on the style in which the room is decorated and on the type of textiles used. For example, heavy fabrics are often attached to the grommets, filament curtains require the use of curtain tape or magnets, and so on.

In fact, there are plenty of subtleties when choosing a mount. And if you do not take them into account at the right time, then you risk spoiling even the most original and expensive curtains. Therefore, be extremely scrupulous in this matter!
