The cheapest foundation: Semykin technology
Not far off is the opening of the summer and construction seasons. Prices for building materials are not encouraging, therefore, as usual, there is a question of optimization and reduction in cost. I propose to discuss the foundations, namely the foundations according to Semykin's technology.

The essence of technology
I'm sure you've seen tire foundations before. Some people are skeptical about this. Someone uses it on their site and reduces construction costs tenfold. But the technology has an author. In 2002 Semykin Mikhail Egorovich patented own way of building foundations from tires.
In the original, it looks like this:
- Leveling the construction site.
- Under the construction, we lay tires in a continuous row (if necessary, leave space for the cellar). The number of rows of tires depends on the terrain.
- We fill the tires with construction debris with sand or gravel by 80%.
- Roll waterproofing over the tires.
- For waterproofing, we pour a reinforced concrete slab 100 mm high (with reinforcing anchoring into the base soil).
The movable structure with tires 80% filled with soil and a rigid reinforced concrete slab eliminates frost heaving deformations.
In the Leningrad region with Mikhail Semakin a forge and a three-story house were built using this technology. The first floor of the house is 7x8 m, the second and third - 10x10 m. The blacksmith is equipped with turning, milling machines and other equipment. Draw your own conclusions about reliability.
What can be built on tire foundations
On the foundations of tires, light country houses, garages and various outbuildings are built. The stove is not always filled. Often limited to a strapping of wooden beams along the contour of the building. It turns out a columnar foundation, where the tire serves as a formwork.
If someone doubts the reliability of such structures, remember the Soviet huts. The lower crown of the log house could lie on several brick pillars, and sometimes even simple boulders. That was enough.
Some land management services like to run around household plots and identify facts of illegal construction: somewhere a firewood shed was attached to the house, somewhere a grandmother built a chicken coop. If such people show up, we can say that you do not have a capital building, but a motor home, and you will go to the traffic police to register it.
What to pay attention to when building
- Geology. I would not build such structures on clay and heaving watered soils. Under unfavorable conditions, frost heaving can be too large.
- Aggregate. It will not be superfluous to lay geotextiles under the tires. Over time, sand or other aggregate can wash out of tires.
- Rigidity. A mandatory rule is a rigid strapping over the tires along the contour of the building. The best option is a frame building.
