2 easy tricks to quickly insulate wires

When carrying out planned repairs, any master takes care of the necessary consumables in advance. But if a breakdown occurs that requires urgent repairs, the simplest one may not be at hand.

Almost every master, sooner or later, is faced with the need to repair electrical wiring, or a household item fails when it is so needed. Connecting the reins, making a twist and isolating it is not at all difficult. But what if the tape is over?

If you need to urgently repair the electrical wire, but there is no electrical tape in the house, you can use other available items with insulating properties as an insulating material.

Method 1:

You can make insulation from a polymer insert for fastening a self-tapping screw (dowel). Choose a dowel that is wide enough to allow the wire that needs to be insulated to fit a little loose. To obtain a workpiece, you need to cut off the relief bottom and the protruding hat from the plastic dowel. The remaining cylindrical fragment is suitable for insulating the wire. The length of the resulting cylinder should be 1.5-2 cm more than the estimated size of the wire twist.

You do not need to connect the wires before starting work. Thread one of the cut ends of the wire into the hole in the plastic cylinder, and only after that twist the wires.

When the twist is ready, carefully thread the wire into the cylinder so that the metal fragment is in the center of the plastic tube.

Of course, such a device will not yet be able to provide full electrical insulation, because the tube can move. To prevent this from happening, you need to firmly fix the plastic fragment on the wire. To do this, the plastic must be heated. It is best to do this on a special gas burner, but if it is not in the house, then a lighter will do. The plastic should heat up, but not burn, to do this, try to keep the wire at a safe distance.

When the dowel begins to cool slightly, press it with your fingers at the twist to ensure a tighter fit.

Plastic is an excellent electrically insulating material, so this wire insulation will allow the device to safely serve for many more years.

Method 2:

If there is no dowel in the house either, an item that can be found anywhere is suitable - a plastic bottle cap.

When making an insulating layer from a cover, the wires must be connected before starting work and twisted.

It will be possible to use the lid only if it becomes soft enough, and for this it will have to be heated. When working with a gas burner, it is recommended to follow safety rules. You need to heat the lid to a very high temperature so that the plastic begins to melt, become soft and plastic. This is a prerequisite.

From the melted plastic, form the outer insulating layer on the twist by wrapping the cap around the wire several times.

Before the material hardens, press it with your fingers against the wire at the twist point, this will fix the insulating layer on the wire and prevent it from moving.

Insulation made from a cork from a plastic bottle will be no less reliable than a winding made from electrical tape. A wire protected in this way will comply with safety standards.

Remember that it is dangerous to leave unprotected stranding of wires, it can cause a short circuit or electric shock to people or animals. If there is no electrical tape in the house, insulate the wire in another acceptable way.
