How to easily and without financial costs to lengthen the profile

A metal profile is a building material made of thin rolled steel. The lightness and strength that it gives to any design favorably distinguish it from other materials. Low cost and ease of installation make it indispensable in the repair work of various types. Strength is given to it by longitudinal ribs and waves that protect structural elements from deformation.

During the behavior of finishing work, you may encounter the fact that the length of the profile does not match the size of the room, and you have to use products with a large linear size, while the remainder of the profile can be significant, and this can increase the cost of room decoration. Welding a profile will not pay off at a price, although it can give sufficient strength.

The question arises before the master finishers: is there a way to connect the parts of the metal profile without welding so that the structure has high strength, but so that this does not affect the final price repair. There is such a way, you can connect the parts of the metal profile during the repair yourself, you just need to know how to do it correctly.

Method 1:

In order to connect two metal fragments, profile cuts of a smaller width will be needed, for example, a 6 cm wide profile will be well fixed by two 3 cm wide profile fragments.

We cut the thin profile to the desired length, 20-25 cm, and alternately refuel inside one of the connected elements.

After that, we put on the free end of two thin profiles and fix the second connected element. The finished structure will not yield in strength to a solid metal profile.

Method 2:

If the thin profile has a slightly tapered shape towards the upper edge, you can fix two cut fragments of the thin profile on the outside of the elements to be joined. If the profile has a rectangular shape, the free edges can be slightly pressed with your hands. Edged narrow fragments are fixed on one of the connected elements, after which the second fixed profile is fixed.

Method 3:

If a thin profile is not at hand, a small cut of the profile of the same width as the one to be fastened is suitable for fastening the parts. 15-20 cm of the profile must be slightly bent in the central part so that the silhouette of the part takes on the shape of the letter M.

The side edges are also pressed so that they are parallel to each other.

The curved part is fixed inside one of the connected elements, after which an extension profile is put on the free edge.

By connecting the parts in this way, the inner element can be fixed both with the concave side up and the curved side.

Method 4:

You can connect parts without using additional tabs. To do this, on the edge of one of the connected ends of the profile, bend the edge, about 5-6 cm from the beginning. After that, simply place the second connected fragment in the resulting channel.

Method 5:

To make the connection stronger without the use of additional tabs, cut off the bent edges at one of the ends of the profile by 6-7 cm.

Thanks to the cut, the height of the profile will become smaller, and it will enter the gap of the second connected fragment, and the coincidence of the relief will give the connection high strength.

Method 6:

To make working with metal and making connections easier, cut the folded edges at a slight angle.

A profile with such a cut will easily enter the lumen of the receiving element and securely lock into it. Such a connection is convenient to use if you need to make a lot of connections in a short time.

Method 7:

To make the junction of the parts completely invisible, cut out a fragment of the profile surface, leaving only its sides.

Fill the resulting guides into the receiving profile, placing them exactly in the textured grooves of the profile. The connection will show high strength and aesthetics.
