The task of the tank in the toilet is to hold a certain amount of water to flush the toilet when you press the button. The most common defect of this device is water incontinence, which can leak outside and flow onto the floor, as well as water flowing into the toilet. Below we consider one, but the most common problem of modern tanks - the failure of the rubber stopper.

Exhaust problem

Suppose you have drained all the water, released the tank button, but noticed that the water continues to flow. It is not the water that was in the tank that is already flowing, but the one that enters through the open inlet valve. It leaks because the outlet valve, a round rubber piece, is not tightly closing the outlet of the tank. It happens that this rubber plug falls on the hole with a warp, and as a result, water leaks. If you open the tank, you will see that it is empty.

Sometimes it is enough to open the tank lid and fix this gum with your hand. Or press the drain button with another button again. Then she straightens up and sits down. Such a problem is not uncommon for tanks with two buttons. It happens that when you press one button, the rubber fits on the drain hole correctly, and when you use the second button, it starts to mow, and it releases water. There are two ways out of the situation. Change the entire exhaust device, or try not to use the capricious second plug.

The second reason. All tanks are subject to it, regardless of the exhaust device. If the exhaust valve has been in operation for a long time, and the rubber has already worn out so much that it does not hold water, then it can be replaced. Such gum is sold in hardware or construction stores, in the markets.

Before starting work, first turn off the water. The toilet must have its own valve for this. Empty the tank. Unscrew the exhaust mechanism by turning it slightly counterclockwise.

To make it easier to remove, it is advisable to hold it for 3-5 minutes in hot water. By the way, the new one too. And then work with gloves so as not to get burned. The heat will make it softer. Now you need to remove the old rubber band and put a new one on the rod. Everything. It remains only to insert the intake mechanism into place and, carefully, so as not to strip the thread, turn it counterclockwise. When putting on a new cork (or, if you like, a gasket), make sure that it sits evenly on the rod. Otherwise, the connection will be uneven and the elastic will let water through.

Please note that if the gum is intact, but it is covered with a coating of sand and clay, then it may be enough to rinse it so that it begins to retain water again. Such a problem arises if the water in the settlement is poorly purified. Dirt settles on the walls of the tank, on the mechanisms, and disrupts their work.

You can make tie-ins and install coarse filters on the water pipe going to the apartment. This procedure will protect not only the tank, but also pipes and other equipment to which water is connected.

When the inlet cock does not close after filling the tank, this usually happens because the float does not rise. In this case, the tank fills up to the emergency drain tube on the exhaust mechanism and begins to overflow through the top. This device is provided so that in the event of an inlet mechanism failure, you do not flood your neighbors. When after draining the water. the leak stops and everything seems to be working properly, but after a few minutes you notice that water flows into the toilet, this only means that the problem is in the inlet faucet.
