Bathroom, kitchen, living quarters, in one ventilation system. Many consider this a mistake, I see only advantages.

I entered a query in the search box: "why can't you combine the ventilation of the bathroom and the kitchen." In response, I received a bunch of assumptions, opinions that SNIP prohibits, but if there is no other way, then it is possible, and other theories. But not a single specific example that would dot the "I". So I'll be a pioneer...

I have repeatedly said in my articles that construction is always a "special case". And what is possible in one house will not work in another.

Therefore, before applying, I analyze all construction solutions (even long-tried and popular). And sometimes I can come to non-standard and controversial conclusions.

My homemade ventilation system, with recuperation, is one example.

This is the last thing I've been working on lately. I have already managed to get a more or less final result, and I have already managed to share all this in previous articles (if you didn't have time to read, then you will find everything on my channel).

However, there are still some doubts...

And basically, they are connected with the fact that in my recuperator, all channels are brought together (from the living quarters, from the kitchen, from the bathroom).

And more than one person tells me that this is wrong, and this cannot be done. Although I do not see anything criminal in this.

βœ… Air flow from one room to another. This is the very first problem that comes to mind. Of course, with a single channel system, this option is possible, but it all depends on the nuances.

  • If each room has its own fan on the hood, and even stands indoors (as often happens in bathrooms, or in the kitchen), then of course their separate work can lead to problems. But in my case, this is one powerful fan for all rooms, which stands at the exit. In this case, there are simply no options for air to move from one room to another (everything just out).

  • Check valves come to the rescue, which will prevent possible air flow when the system is turned off.

βœ… Too humid air from the bathroom. And this applies to the work of the recuperator. In my case, plate heat exchangers will inevitably lead to the formation of condensate.

And here it is important that I provided for his withdrawal in principle. And its quantity does not matter. Therefore, it does not matter how much this air is humid.

Another thing is that high humidity will lead to more problems in freezing the heat exchanger. But here again, you need to go into the nuances.

  • First, I'm not going to do laundry with 100% humidity 24 hours a day. Therefore, there will be a lot of humidity only while someone is washing, and this is a very small part of the time. And those few minutes of the shower are unlikely to affect the system.
  • Secondly, in any case, I will do something with additional air heating, as part of the fight against icing (this cannot be avoided in severe frosts). So condensation doesn't really matter.

βœ… Fat couples from the kitchen. This can already cause problems, but again with special indifference (this is if you hang a cap over the stove and drive everything directly into the recuperator).

But personally, I plan to install a modern cooker hood in the kitchen, which has both a grease trap and a filter system. So the problem is also more contrived.
Something like that...
Something like that...

But no one told me about the benefits. I had to look for it myself.

When I decided to get confused with a homemade recuperator, the main task was to maximize the use of energy from the air thrown out to the outside.

Therefore, it seems to me that it is simply a sin to make a separate hood for the kitchen and bathroom, from where the warmest air in the house will fly out.

So for me, the combination of all channels gives even greater efficiency of the recuperator.

Friends, this is my view on this issue. I would love to hear your opinion, be sure to go to the comments and share. It's always beneficial.
