How to drain a plot without drainage: all the neighbors envied
If the site has a high level of groundwater, the usual way to drain the area is ordinary drainage. Yes, it can be expensive. But effective.
But not everyone follows the usual beaten track. To drain the wetland, the man called not plumbers to install drainage, but landscape designers. At first, the neighbors twisted their fingers to their heads, proving that nothing would work. But then they envied and took the method into service.
The method described below is not suitable in 100% of cases. If you don't have 5 minutes of free time to read, do something more useful and important.
Why they abandoned the classic ways to drain the site
The reason is simple: when the estimates for different methods of land reclamation were calculated, the classical approaches turned out to be more expensive. Judge for yourself.
When arranging classical drainage, we will have to (I simplify the work as much as possible):
- Dig drainage channels.
- Buy and install geotextiles.
- Buy and lay crushed stone (gravel).
- Buy and lay drainage pipes.
- Buy materials and equip a drainage well.
- Buy and install a drainage pump.
Try to calculate the amount of materials and the cost of drainage work on your site.
You can go the other way. Do not drain the territory, but raise the level of the earth on the site. In the best scenario, this takes dozens of soil machines. Calculate the costs based on your scope of work.
The most interesting thing is that in both cases we buried a lot of money in the ground, but the territory remained undeveloped!
How landscape designers drained a site without drainage
One firm came up with an alternative solution to the problem.
Instead of bringing soil, they dug a pond on the site.
Instead of a classical drainage system, plants were correctly selected and planted. Yes, there are "water plants". Their roots actively absorb water from the soil and evaporate it through the leaves. There are trees that can “pump out” up to 600 liters of moisture per day from the ground. This is how they found an alternative way to drain the territory.
Now back to costs. The cost of landscaping work turned out to be comparable to the installation of classical drainage. But with classical technologies, after the completion of the work, we have to spend money on landscaping. And for designers, the cost of "drainage" already includes landscaping.
Also keep in mind that conventional drainage silts up over the years and stops working. So the neighbors took to arms. Over time, they implement it at home.
Is it possible to drain the site without landscape designers - on their own
Surely you can. The technology is called biodrainage. Study it in more detail. With the right approach, everything will work out. The following water plants are often used for drainage:
- Darmer thyroid.
- Spiraea.
- Graveyard.
- Buzulnik.
- Swamp marigold.
- Euphorbia marsh.
- Black cohosh.
- Air marsh.
The choice of specific plants depends on the climate, soil characteristics and many other factors. You may not like what is listed above. There may be other more affordable and acclimatized plants in your area. When choosing them, consider the following requirements:
- Plants should have a minimum need for oxygen in the water.
- The root system of plants should feel good in watered wetlands.
- Plants must be hardy. After all, flooded soils freeze faster and to a greater depth.
You can try to do everything yourself. But keep in mind that biodrainage is a complex biological and engineering system. At a minimum, it will not be superfluous to consult with specialists. The sponsors of the publication are all landscape designers of the country)))
