We repair mosquito nets: window cleaners will no longer cash in on you
It's time to get and install mosquito nets. But it would be nice to patch them up first. In window companies, this service costs some, frankly, obscene money. The craftsmen do not want to repair something locally, and for the upholstery of the canvas in Moscow firms they ask from 1,500 rubles per square meter.
It's easier to do it all by hand. Local repairs can be done conditionally free of charge. The banner of the canvas will cost about 100 rubles per sq.m. And this, for a minute, savings by 15 times. If there are many windows, a tangible amount.
We put a patch on the mosquito net
The easiest and most affordable option
To close up a hole, we take a regular adhesive tape and seal the hole on both sides. You need to take into account several nuances:
- During operation, dust accumulates on the surface. If you don't remove it, the tape will fall off. Maybe not right away, but it won't last long. Therefore, before sticking the patch on the hole, rinse and dry the surface. You can use plain water and a sponge.
- The durability of the repair depends on the quality of the tape. To prolong its life, stick a strip on both sides.
- Instead of adhesive tape, adhesive tape or ordinary electrical tape is sometimes used. Yes, aesthetics suffer. You have to choose between appearance and insects in the house.
Applications
If suddenly there was no adhesive tape at hand (this also happens), you can use trimmings of a mosquito net or tulle as a patch.
In place of the hole, we glue the patch with “rubber glue”, “moment”, “minute” or any other glue that is suitable for gluing such materials. If possible, degrease the surface with a solvent, acetone (nail polish remover) or alcohol.
If glue is not at hand, we sew the patch with ordinary threads or fishing line.
To make the repaired section of the leaky mosquito net on PVC windows look neater, we first cut out the disheveled section.
Factory ways to repair a mosquito net
Self-adhesive mesh tape
On sale you can find a special repair adhesive tape. It has a mesh base, and one of the surfaces is adhesive. It is somewhat reminiscent of a "sickle", which is used to reinforce drywall joints.
- Degrease the surface.
- Carefully cut out the torn area with a hole.
- Attach repair tape.
Self-adhesive patches
You can seal an oblong hole with adhesive tape, for example, if we cut the mosquito net on the windows with something. Relatively large holes cannot be repaired with them - the roll is too narrow.
Adhesive-backed patches come in a variety of sizes. With their help, you can even repair the holes that the cat made when he climbed into the house from the street.
- We clean and degrease the surface.
- Align the edges of the hole.
- Cut out the patch to size.
- Glue the repair patch.
Complete mosquito net repair
The methods described above are usually temporary solutions. Sooner or later you will have to change the canvas for a new one. This can also be done with your own hands, and quite budgetary.
Window companies and hardware stores offer repair kits. They are relatively expensive, and often there is no need for all these materials. Judge for yourself - the repair kit usually includes:
- Sealing cord. It's just not needed. You can reuse the original cord. And several times.
- Stitching roller. Yes, it greatly simplifies and speeds up installation. An indispensable tool if you need to repair window mosquito nets on the stream. For one-time jobs, it is not necessary.
- Spare handles. They are put in the kit in case of breakage of native elements. But these pens are short-lived. They last a season or two and break again. It doesn't make much sense to install them.
- New canvas. This is perhaps the only thing we really need. But you can buy material many times cheaper at the nearest hardware store or on the construction market - the price is 90-100 rubles per square meter.
Ok, you have bought a new canvas and are ready to repair the mosquito net so that insects do not climb into the house through the windows. Carry out the replacement in the following sequence:
- Pry off the sealing cord with a screwdriver and carefully pull it out.
- Remove the old canvas from the frame.
- We lay the new canvas on the frame so that there is a margin around the edges.
- We press the sealing cord along one of the long sides, fixing the mesh.
- On the opposite side, we slightly stretch the canvas and also fix it.
- We stretch and fasten the two remaining sides.
- Cut off excess material with a paint knife or scissors.
